This video highlights what my primary work is about. I had very little to do with the creation of this video- the team who worked on this did an incredible job, as did all the people who contributed photos, video, & interviews. The work is difficult- we're fortunate to have great people involved.

Granddad, my orange cat, turned 21. His health isn't good, but he's still going. My youngest cat, who he raised when she was a kitten, spends a lot of time with him.

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:
Handwritten notecard. Prompt at the top asks: What object was most devastating for you to lose, and how have you been coping? Answer below: Dentures. Were thrown away and coping isn't somthing I can do. It’s made me feel ugly, unworthy, can’t go get a job with no teeth. So how can get off the streets until another pair can be made?

ICE just arrested a 5-year-old on his way to a soccer game in Austin. His name is Liam, just like the little boy from Minnesota. He should be in kindergarten this week. Instead he's in a trailer prison in the desert. Release Liam. Release these kids. Close the Dilley children’s prison.

The “Woke DEI”’Cambridge university ignored 58 complaints about Nathan Cofnas from Black students while he was there according to writer and former PhD student Jill Damatac
Screenshot: instagram of jilldamatac

BRITISH
VOGUE
When Dr Arday became a professor, British anti-Blackness awoke from its nap - it's never a long slumber. Nathan Cofnas, a university fellow and a "race realist" - whose beliefs include the spurious claim that in a "true meritocracy" Black people would "disappear from almost all high-profile positions outside of sports and entertainment" - accused Arday of plagiarism. Cofnas had a history of anti-Black behaviour at the University, with 58 complaints filed against him by Black students claiming racism. Cambridge cleared him of wrongdoing, citing "free speech". It strains credulity that Cofnas's racist scholarship found a place at Cambridge at all, yet as an alumnus of colour, I can't help but feel unsurprised.

These are hardly the only authors or institutions weathering a storm of AI-related problems. Steven Rosenbaum
acknowledged this week that his new book The Future of Truth, which grapples with the nature of veracity in the Al age, itself contains Al-hallucinated quotes Nobel Prize-winning Polish novelist Olga Tokarczuk just outraged her own fans by admitting that LLMs are now part of her creative process. And when arXiv, a tree distribution service for scholarly articles, last week announced a new policy of one-year bans for authors who fail to catch erroneous Al-based content in their work, including in citations, even one academic made the extraordinary claim that this was unfeasible.
