Despite ongoing misinformation, #Plyler is grounded in the Constitution and continues to shape school systems across the country. Education is not conditional. It is a right for all children. #ProtectPlyler #EducationForAll #ImmigrantHeritageMonth

How a SCOTUS decision on birthright citizenship could impact education access
All children, regardless of immigration status, have the right to a free K-12 public education. But without birthright citizenship, access to schools and colleges could get complicated.

Saenz: the undocumented population is so small that, even if they were all blocked from school, we'd still have English learner programs and other instructional supports. Those costs can't be fairly attributed as an effect of Plyler. (This is really the key point of the whole hearing.)

That's because: The overwhelming majority (75% or more) of English learners are US citizens. AND many of the remaining quarter are here legally (as are their families). So: you can't use ELs data to make claims about the fiscal impacts of children of undocumented parents on the K–12 system.

Pay attention🚨 ICE wielded weapons and physical force against students and staff on school property. Against KIDS. We know this isn't about safety––it’s a performance of dominance that keeps NO ONE safe, and it poisons the learning environment for the entire community, not just immigrants. Shame.

Some reports say that she was a citizen—a stark reminder that this could be any of us. Your citizenship no longer protects you. If ICE deems you a threat for any reason, all the protections afforded you by the Constitution are lost. ICE Kills. What a devastating day in America.

The Vanity Fair photographer from the Susie Wiles story. Holy. Shit. www.washingtonpost.com/style/power/...
Were there moments that you missed? Anything that happened that’s on the cutting room floor?
I don’t think there’s anything I missed that I wish I’d gotten. I’ll give you a little anecdote: Stephen Miller was perhaps the most concerned about the portrait session. He asked me, “Should I smile or not smile?” and I said, “How would you want to be portrayed?” We agreed that we would do a bit of both. And then when we were finished, he comes up to me to shake my hand and say goodbye. And he says to me, “You know, you have a lot of power in the discretion you use to be kind to people.” And I looked at him and I said, “You know, you do, too.”
