I am very happy to share our new preprint on #Drosophila muscles. @tiaramuld.bsky.social discovered flies have a tremendous ability to remodel their muscles after massive damage. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Evidence of complete myofibril remodeling after severe damage in adult Drosophila.
Muscle function depends on the ability of myofibrils to withstand and repair mechanical damage, yet how adult muscles remodel damaged myofibrils remains poorly understood. Here, we establish a Drosoph...

Now online! The sex and reproductive plasticity of intestinal muscles instruct gut size
dlvr.it
The sex and reproductive plasticity of intestinal muscles instruct gut size
Adult intestinal size plasticity is driven not only by epithelial stem cells but also by remodeling of the surrounding visceral musculature. Sex- and reproduction-dependent muscle remodeling controls gut size and transit, revealing the intestinal muscle as an active regulator of adult organ adaptation.

1/8 🎉 Super excited to share my work with Paulo Ribeiro at @qmbci.bsky.social- now published @embojournal.org ! We show PP2A can activate the Hippo pathway in Drosophila, in addition to its role as a Hippo negative regulator as part of the STRIPAK complex. 🧵A short thread on what we found below!

Myc sustains sex-biased organ zonation in the Drosophila intestine
Amourda, Blackie, Gaspar, et al. show that sex-biased activity of Dsx and Myc shapes intestinal zonation and lipid metabolism in Drosophila. Elevated Myc activity in female enterocytes increases ploid...

Today's Spotlight features Dr Vilaiwan Fernandes - Lister Fellow and rising leader in developmental biology. Vilaiwan's research explores how brain cells grow, connect, and organise themselves during development, helping us better understand how healthy brains are built. linktr.ee/ucllifescien...
The text at the top reads IWD2026 Spotlight. The image is of Dr Vilaiwan Fernandes with a microscope behind her. The text at the bottom has her name and UCL Faculty of Life Sciences.
