The mocking will continue as long as wealthy people with no skills continue to stand up and tell us how smart they are. To coin a phrase, Fuck these rich morons.

I’m not pro-war, but it’s clear that wars of the future will be fought with drones and tech by soldiers mostly sitting behind monitors and joysticks. But, yeah, those people doing a ton of push ups will definitely be the advantage the U.S. needs.

I don’t care if you’re a “nice person” behind closed doors. What good does that do anyone? It’s also never true, but even if it were, why would it help me in any way?

From The Automatic Detective, my retro sci fi detective novel: Joseph Jung, mutant gorilla And an unfinished sketch of Alfredo Sanchez, mutant cop. Is he a man who mutated into a possumoid or a possum who mutated into a humanoid? I’ll never tell.

I thought Lanterns was okay enough to watch 2 episodes before I checked out. No biggie. But now I’m seeing that it is either one of the greatest superhero shows ever or the worst. Oh, internet, never change. Actually, maybe change a little.

Mack Megaton cartoon I did. I wrote The Automatic Detective 18 years ago. I know Ray Gun will soon eclipse it, but not going down without a fight. So if you’re looking for a retro detective story with robots and mutants, I’d say it’s worth a read.

After years of being told to fear Muslims, immigrants, and the "enemy within", look at who actually called for U.S. cities to be destroyed. The President of the United States. A white pedophile billionaire telling a foreign power to bomb U.S. cities. Sit with how fucking insane that sentence is.

Propaganda has us thinking of AI as Skynet, ready to destroy us with killer robots, but really AI is a guessing machine that will drink all our water and convince us the moon is made of cheese.

My country is being run by people who only understand aesthetics, who mistake their own (clumsy) propaganda for truth, who think themselves all John Galt because they were born into wealth and privilege. What a bunch of dopes.

Not as far as I know. Baen is a new publisher for me, so I’m not sure of their policy on audiobooks. I do hope one comes along sooner rather than later, but I’m unaware of any developments of yet.

rape is not an oopsie daisy. it's not a youthful "mistake." it is a life-altering violation of someone's fundamental bodily autonomy. it inflicts intense suffering and psychological trauma. it is torturous to experience and it is often torturous to continue living afterward. it is a big deal.

I don’t tend to follow my release numbers after a book comes out. It’ll just drive you crazy. But Unbearable keeps coming out high on Arthurian Fantasy subcategory on Amazon. So I’ll take a win while I can.

An aspiring writer asked me “Are you writing a book or are you writing something that will one day become a book?” The distinction hit me like a brick. I don’t think there’s a wrong answer, but your answer says a lot about how the process works for you. I’m Option 2. Just FYI

It feels like every culture must learn (and relearn again and again) that having wealth does not make one smart. It’s a parody of those Holidau Inn Express commercials. “Well, I’m not a doctor but I do have a billion dollars in my bank account.”

Found a negative YouTube review of my new book, which is cool. I’ve been doing this long enough to accept not everyone is going to like what I do. Honestly, it was just nice to see someone talking about it. The worst thing is silence. So, hey, Unbearable. Some people like it. Maybe even you!

It also sucks because I know that’s the end of any adaptation of The Automatic Detective. It’s too similar. Not that I expected it to happen, but there was always hope. It’s a tough blow.

Watching the trailer for Ray Gunn, it just sucks that this will become the genre defining media. In about a year, I expect people to start saying “clearly inspired by Ray Gunn…”

I wrote The Automatic Detective 18 years ago. While I certainly didn’t invent the retro sci fi genre, it floated around in Hollywood for years. Almost, but not quite happening. Pretty normal.

DEAD MEDIA. A scrappy DIY horror film that is as Minneapolis a movie as it gets. When friends decide to spin up a long lost horror film, they find a special feature that unleashes the film into their home. Really uses DVD cleverly to create a new kind of analog horror. Really dug it. Coming soon!

Yes, the whole pack Alpha among wolves was disproven decades ago. But why wouldn’t werewolves be just as vulnerable as mobsters to cultural influences? Why wouldn’t vampires start fearing the sun after decades of fiction telling them to? Maybe all monsters are just “folklore influenced”?

A. Lee Martinez @handle.invalid · 10/09/2026
Whenever I read a werewolf story with “alphas” I always think that, in this story, these characters have adopted a cultural conceit based on movies. Like mobster culture copying The Godfather, which happened. So basically, most stories are werewolves copying a culture that never existed.
