it is my passion that theatrical video design must be 60fps unless it is supposed to look like a movie

Baltimore people I love you but Hopkins is not building a datacenter in the middle of their campus in Remington. That would be an egregious waste of space, every higher ed building from this century has servers and this AI research center will of course have them, but it’s not a datacenter.

listen. it's VERY simple. A goes to B, B goes to G, D goes to 2, C goes to 1, and E goes to 3. in short, E, C, D, A, B is now 3, 1, 2, B, G and please don't keep asking

Build Nothing: how architectural restraint makes for better general-purpose buildings

000

alec @alecsparks.bsky.social · 26/07/2026

I want to write a book based on interviews with people who use buildings 5-10 years after they were renovated. What do they love and what do they regret?

alec @alecsparks.bsky.social · 26/07/2026

There's a 400+ seat theater in town which was built in 1915. A 2017 renovation to make it a movie theater added comfy seats and filled the fly loft with HVAC. They also installed railings that block sightline to the stage- not a problem, they just installed the screen super high.

example: we're converting the @voxel.org website to a new design using simple PHP, CSS, and @getkirby.com for a CMS. I don't want the robot to build a CMS, I want the robot to help me use the existing CMS. It's fast, it's a joy, and I'm not scared that I'm building something wobbly and insecure.

huge whiff by @ubiquiti.bsky.social to not have always-on Etherlighting so you know what VLAN you're connecting to *before* you plug in (it only lights up after a cable is connected)

one cool thing about running @voxel.org on QLab is we can link unusual things. Pressing the doorbell plays a chime, displays an alert on a nearby TV, and flashes the architectural lighting.
