Sen. Susan Collins helped steer millions in federal defense contracts to Navatek, whose CEO illegally funneled thousands of dollars to her campaign. The FBI sought to launch a probe and was eyeing Collins and other lawmakers. Then Trump gutted the unit in charge. THREAD 🧵

Hello from the top of the Empire State Building, where I am running WNYC's overnight programming from our little backup studio in the sky while Con Ed is doing work at our main studio downtown. #WNYC #radio #NYC
A photo of the view out the window of WNYC's transmitter room at the top of the Empire State Building, looking downtown towards lower Manhattan, all lit up on a Friday night. One World Trade Center is one of the many landmarks visible in the distance. A photo of WNYC's backup studio at the top of the Empire State Building. The lights in the room are turned off. A small radio mixing console sits on a desk, with a computer monitor above it which shows the Zetta radio automation system running. A microphone and a laptop running another audio program are also on the desk. Behind all that is a window looking out on lower Manhattan. A photo of New York Public Radio's transmitter room at the top of the Empire State Building, with several large racks of equipment for the transmitters of WNYC and WQXR. A red WNYC banner (vintage early '00s design) is hanging above a couple of the racks. A photo from WNYC's transmitter room at the top of the Empire State Building, showing a King Kong doll on a shelf above some small equipment drawers containing various types of screws.

I always feel like the worst think about making coffee in the morning is that you have to do it BEFORE you’ve had any coffee.
I appear to have scooped coffee grounds directly into my mug instead of into the empty French press beside it.
