Simply because Disgaea doesn't work in a modern cour structure, especially not a single cour season. At least not if they're trying to properly tell the story of any of the games. Most N1 games play with that interplay of comedy & tragedy. Going from wacky & goofy to dead serious without issue.

The semi episodic with an overarching plot they went with would work infinitely better as something along the lines of the Prinny games (if they wanted to do more with the Neutral Ending), or just something like DD2 or their cameos where its just random days in their wacky & zany lives.

The best part of the Disgaea anime is the short animated skit from Disgaea 2 promoting it. But yes even ignoring how its supposed to be a loose adaptation of the first game its just all around mid. Music was forgettable, the animation quality was poor and the story was a mess.
