As a foundation for stories and shared settings i appreciate it as it gives a baseline that can be acknowledged by the audience. Beyond that, i think people are too attached to the idea of a single, immutable series of events. Granted, this is just in regards to fiction and TTRPGs.

I'd say 3 is a solid number of classes for testing, that way you can get an idea of how you want them to be balanced against each other. On the other hand, it would depend on how much identity is tied to the class itself vs something like archetypes within each class. Though I'm a sucker for choice.

Worldbuilding question for any that want to answer: When designing dungeons, and by extension any structure, is it better to build it with it's in-world function as a priority, or with the intent that PC's will interact with it and you should place your McGuffins with player habits in mind?
