I think it goes back to the 80s again - it seems to have come most from early anarcho-punk communities from what I can tell; I think there's an element of just looking cool/ disreputable, an element of deliberate disregard for social standards around personal grooming (they're always ratty AF locks)

There's an enduring popularity of it in the grind and crust scene here and I'm not quite sure why. John from Napalm Death, for example, and they're super right on, so I'm sure they know what cultural appropriation. It's been like this since the 80s - Jeff Carcass, Phil ENT etc.

I refuse to charge rent or require payment from them, since the goal is to help them rebuild their lives and that's harder if you're struggling to pay bills, but this means I have to cover hundreds of dollars in bills and rent myself; anything folks can contribute helps, even small donations!

No, it's the opposite of what's happening with a rit, which is a gradual slowing of tempo. Here we need to slow the tempo with (in Reaper) a pair of tempo change markers and adjusting the curve between them.

Yanno, it strikes me that one can do things like this in Sibelius and MuseScore and it will play it back, so I think this should be possible in a DAW by using the score editor view. You need it in DAW, right?

I'd imagine it's very different if your account goes beyond a few hundred people - the sheer volume of interaction that garners feels as if it would be unmanageable.
