Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 4hBaking season starts next week! (Once the weather cools off) 110
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 4hI actually love the show. It's something that I put on in the background while I'm cooking, and it's very soothing. 110
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 5hI wish the great American baking show stuck around longer than it did (and was still available to stream!) 010
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 5hHahaha I forgot was the same unhinged season in which they made s'mores from round digestive biscuits and a circular marshmallow of the same diameter, held together with chocolate ganache, and lightly blowtorched. WTF Brits, please get a culturally competent consultant for a non-British bake. 250
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 05/10/2026The House with a Clock in its Walls was one of my favorite books as a kid. Not sure the movie really did it justice, but it's definitely fun. 010
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 05/10/2026The life-stealing pain machine in The Princess Bride, and the entirety of Labyrinth. I was terrified Bowie as the Goblin King would steal my baby brother. 000
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 03/10/2026My parents' doctor retired several years ago. My dad intentionally picked a very young doctor (after grilling him that he was staying and planned to do his career in their city) because he never wants to switch again. 110
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 03/10/2026I'm rewatching the Great British Bake Off Mexican episode, and I truly had forgotten how bad it was. Like, I remembered guackymolo, but I had not remembered all of the weird racism. Not to mention the flavor combinations sound heavy-handed and terrible. 120
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 03/10/2026For many years, when a patient has told me that I'm so young, I respond that I am older than I look. (This is true.) The other day a patient told me "You look so little!" And somehow I instinctively said "I'm bigger than I look!" 1122
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 01/10/2026This one always cracks me up. You can cite them or whatever and leave, or you can keep them under arrest and you stay. You have no legal authority to ask hospital staff to make you aware of when a patient not under arrest gets discharged. No, sir. 130
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 25/09/2026Update the next morning: my response has more likes than his original comment, and there is one new commenter saying she is glad that I participated. Families with babies: 1 Shitty neighborhood grumps: 0likesthanhisoriginal.com 170
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 25/09/2026Figured out that it's only to closer neighbors. But yeah. 010
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 25/09/2026Yep! Couldn't imagine someone more helpful and neighborly, don't you think? 010
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 25/09/2026Ah, it has a little icon that pops up with "this post is shown only to nearby neighbors" 010
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 25/09/2026My parents could easily be NIMBYs. But they love me and listen when we explain something and learn better ways of interacting with their neighborhood. An earnest well-informed conversation is often all it takes, really. It's just so time and labor intensive to do at scale. 000
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 25/09/2026Hmm that's strange. The link seems to work for me. There aren't any new comments after mine yet. 200
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 25/09/2026Someday I will get mad enough at public comment that I will just turn around and ask them all in distain whether they have grandchildren who can afford to live here, or if they only get to see them twice a year. And if they think any of their policies lead to that outcome. 150
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 25/09/2026It's really something! Honestly, I'm glad I was able to stop her by raising my voice and standing firm. I'm not exactly sure what I would've done if she kept coming at me. Hopefully someone else would've helped, but it's hard to know in that moment. 020
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 25/09/2026Thank you! I have friends who know him, and it sounds like this is very representative of his personality! 010
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 25/09/2026To any reasonable person who does not want to log into nextdoor, this is what the thread about me looked like: 4121
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 25/09/2026God help me, i responded to a Nextdoor thread. nextdoor.com/p/c7wN_fFz-w...nextdoor.comI thought the District 8 candidates forum last night at St.Join Nextdoor, an app for neighborhoods where you can get local tips, buy and sell items, and more 6272
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 24/09/2026No lie, those are direct quotes of things that two of them said to me yesterday. She literally waved her finger in my face and said "You are the most selfish person I have ever known." A truly remarkable statement. What a lovely long life she has led. 040
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 24/09/2026Benjamin, it is completely inappropriate to bring a baby to a public meeting. By doing so and refusing to leave, I am the most selfish person she has ever known. Isn't that obvious? 120
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 24/09/2026SF Bay area! I live in the east bay and work in the north bay. 001
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 24/09/2026When I was a resident at Roosevelt Hospital (now called Mount Sinai West), one of the perks was that we could get free tickets to Lincoln Center shows if we volunteered to be the in-house doctor. The attendings took all the good ballet/opera, but there was lots of orchestra availability. 210
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 24/09/2026One of my favorite things is when someone gives a public comment with their child next to them, and then the kid gives comment for the next minute. Some of these kids are incredibly well spoken and know their issues! 040
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 24/09/2026I raised my voice, told her to not touch me. Everyone turned around to look. She got embarrassed and flustered and slinked away. But holy cow, you put your hands on me while I'm holding my kid? Mama bear is coming out. 1100
Reposted by Alana KinrichMarc Hedlund @marcprecipice.bsky.social · 24/09/2026It’s *absurd* that @alanakinrich.medsky.social would be treated this way at a community meeting, especially since the message this sends is that parents of young children are not allowed to participate. Completely unacceptable! We should be making space for parents, people with evening jobs, etc. 3201
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 24/09/2026Shockingly, she didn't get nicer when I addressed her as Ms, as she requested. bsky.app/profile/alan... 090

Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 24/09/2026Ding ding! They seriously only want a certain type of person at their events, and parents of young children are not it. 1170
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 24/09/2026Tonight's neighborhood NIMBY tried to physically push me out of a public event for the crime of "having a baby playing happily in the back." These people drive me up the wall. 5716
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 21/09/2026Yes, it is. Sometimes it's said as "May their memory be for a blessing," which is grammatically a bit clunky but I like it too. 030

Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 20/09/2026I maintain that the polite form of addressing someone who appears to be a woman over 60 years old is ma'am. If they request differently, I will address them as they request. But if they accuse me of being an idiot and a bitch, I am just disinclined to take them seriously. 370
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 20/09/2026I asked her what she preferred to be called and she said Ms., but when I switched to calling her Ms. it did not make her more polite. Shocking. 140
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 20/09/2026I was SO tempted to get my phone out, but I was being questionably effective already. We at least chased them out of tabling the neighborhood event, which I count as a success. 170

Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 20/09/2026Got into a fight with a neighborhood NIMBY who called me an idiot and a bitch, and then told me I was being offensive by calling her ma'am. 3581
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 19/09/2026I suppose it could go rancid. But it's usually a very stable high heat oil under completely closed/pressurized conditions, and I don't think mine ever has. 010
Alana Kinrich @alanakinrich.medsky.social · 19/09/2026I just finished a can of baking spray that was best by 2021. 120
