cold is currently happening). Then, I took some of my usual medication, not expecting it to have been expired and it was and it MESSED with my SOUL. Then the 70th bday party I was planning for my mom and aunt had to get postponed because it was at high altitude and you can’t take a toddler with

took our family’s car into the shop to have the AC fixed. Apparently there was a belt issue that would cost more to fix than the car was worth. So we had to buy a new car. Then, our son got pink eye and gave it to me. Then he got an ear infection. We all already had two colds back to back (second

What a f*cking week. Gotta vent. Brace yourselves. First, we found out one of our elder dogs has a permanently dislocated hip and we’re praying she’ll take to a wheelchair. 120 pounds of dog in a wheel chair would be a totally epic promenade around the neighborhood. Then, we..

Is it diabolical to not combine winds, but still combine sets of brass onto single staves?

Annika Socolofsky @aksoco.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

Is it really rude of me to keep winds on their own staves for this orchestra piece? It’s gonna be a battle to combine them as they are quite independent at times

I live for a blatant whole step modulation

110

Thank you! Just got through listening to these! They’re all so rich and fun in their own unique ways! As someone who doesn’t typically have much appreciation for modulation, this was really cool to listen to :)

Just used a secondary dominant unironically in this piece what am I even doing

Annika Socolofsky @aksoco.bsky.social · 12/07/2026

Wow I had no idea he had such a great singing voice!

Composers! What are some of your favorite modulations from pieces from the last 100 years (classical or classical adjacent genres)? Links please!

Do you ever write a whole ass piece and realize you’ve given nothing to Bassoon 2 or Trumpet 3? 😂

Trombone concerto coming along nicely! Way ahead of schedule, and feeling better and better about it day by day.

Started out today by making a reasonable goal for a short work day: write a secondary theme for the first movement of this trombone concerto. Within 5 mins I realized I just needed to spin out some transition material into a full theme. Took 10 mins. Now I’m FLYING past my original goal for 2day 💅

Annika Socolofsky @aksoco.bsky.social · 08/07/2026

The solution? Going on vacation to this place and forgetting about the piece for a while

Annika Socolofsky @aksoco.bsky.social · 08/07/2026

I think I might have actually successfully de-corned my trombone concerto. There’s still a bit of sap, for sure, but not quite dekalb 🌽

I looked up the full text of 4834 and Illinois is straight up refusing to acknowledge testosterone as a controlled substance or track prescriptions of it and will destroy any such existing records. This is really great!

Someone just unironically said to me: “I’m a republican. I’m in the middle.” Sir, what?

Profoundly sad (and angry) about today's SCOTUS ruling against transgender athletes. The bigotry and racism of several recent rulings are hard to absorb. My heart goes out to transgender people and their families, especially the parents of transgender kids (I know many). I feel your sadness today.

Just a women’s sports fan out here routing for whatever men’s team doesn’t have a known rapist on it. God, I hate men’s sports.

I retract the word European from my previous comment

110

Ok, to bring some critical thought to this: I feel like the trombone is so strongly associated with humor, that (aside from European modernists) most composers must kind of embrace that associate to an extent

100

Ah I see you are bringing critical thought to my silly post ❤️ I’m not sure!

And if your answer is yes, I’ll need you to link me to some evidence
