Solid platform, but for me,
And We’ll Make Your Vote Matter – OneCity commits to an instant run off ranked ballot for mayor and the use of new voting methods, like proportional representation, to ensure that your ballot actually reflects who your neighbourhood wants to lead the City, not just who has the best funded campaign. We’ll get there by supporting a Citizen’s Assembly on Electoral Reform that will recommend either a proportional, ward, or hybrid system to improve diversity and representation, ahead of the 2030 election. Antonio Banderas laptop scene meme. Looking mighty pleased.

From the discord this afternoon...
Samwise Gamgee and David Eby's head photoshopped on Pippin's body, with the caption, "What about second election?".

Aragorn looks back, annoyed.

What's it like inside your head?
A POV shot of a wizard (judging from their backlit shadow) flipping off a skeleton with a red glowing skull, which is giving the middle finger right back.

This is the Vancouver Greens' last Instagram post, back in July. Look at this poll! This poll is the most specific point the campaign has produced, and it's just a popularity contest winner. It won't matter when people actually go to the polls. They'll remember his name, but nothing else.

"Good Government" So many words to say basically nothing. You'll be a great collaborator. Great! Are we talking about empowering watchdogs? Maybe council meeting changes? I could see this text, word for word, on Ken Sim's campaign site. I wouldn't believe him... But why should I believe in you?

"Economic Development" What is the red tape that needs to be cutting? Is it bylaws or how staff operates? It's there again in the last paragraph, and I still don't know! What kind of good-paying jobs are we talking about? Govt. positions? In small businesses? Why is "arts and culture" here??

"Safety and Wellbeing" This is the most kudos I can give to Fry: He kind of, almost, sorta indicates a respectful, evidence-based approach to drug users and the unhoused. But the "rule of law" right at the end makes me question if this is actually an attempt to bring the police on board. 😬
Safety and Wellbeing

Safety and wellbeing go hand in hand. A healthier city is a safer city with streets and neighbourhoods that are welcoming for all.

Community safety is a balanced with a responsible care approach that reduces causes of harm like addiction, mental health, shelter and poverty with services and supports that respects both human rights and rule of law,

"Affordable Living" I agree, affordability is more than just housing-related spending. What does "everyday costs" mean? Are grocery prices a higher priority than the costs to commute? Apart from "working people" "protecting renters", this could be on Ken Sim's campaign site, which is not great!
Affordable living

Vancouver should be a city people can afford to call home. Affordability isn’t just about housing—it’s about making daily life manageable, with reliable services, fair costs, and a city that works for working people.

I’ll focus on lowering everyday costs, delivering more homes people can actually afford, and protecting renters. Strong public services, smart investments, and value for tax dollars, with a focus on making life easier—not harder—for families and seniors, workers and small businesses.

"Sustainable Growth" First line tries to appeal both to YIMBYs and NIMBYs, which has never worked, ever. "A range of housing options", "investments in parks", "climate action" are all nice things, but not a crumb of anything specific. The next paragraph appears to be draft #2, but just as vague.
Sustainable Growth

We can grow and still protect what makes Vancouver special. I support a range of housing options so people can live in every neighbourhood, alongside investments in parks, green space, and climate action. Growth should be smart, sustainable, and help build a city that’s healthy, lively, and enjoyable for everyone.

We can grow without losing what makes Vancouver special. I will support a full range of housing options, while protecting green space and advancing climate action. Smart, sustainable growth means building complete communities—places where people can live, work, and connect in a clean, green, and resilient city.

OneCity's website doesn't list all of this, but they've been putting out tons of social media posts talking about problems they see, why they want to fix it, and how they plan to do it. Pete Fry's campaign website has some of that, at first glance. Let's take a peek at the bold progressive vision.

Something I loved about urban neighbourhoods in Japan were the coffee shops, izakayas, and other small businesses run out of home ground floors and garages. I really like this from OneCity. Neighbourhoods can be so much more than what we've been locked into.

The median net worth in BC is $773.5k. The property tax bill, proportionally, is $309. Would you twist your hat, chomp hard on your cigar and waste a lot of people's time in order to pay slightly less than $300 instead?

I'm mostly stunned that this is charging forward with none of this information easily available, and before any terms or agreement even exists! Who exactly needs this and why? Will the answers even be valid when the buildings are finished? Why should we reserve valuable space now for data later?
Despite announcing Telus’s data centre expansion, the federal government has not yet agreed on any terms or amounts to fund, finance or invest in the project. Instead, it is entering discussions with Telus and the proponents of about 160 other projects before considering support for any centres.

Genuine question, is any other project drawing the equivalent of 85,000 BC homes that these three buildings will? If so, that's fair I guess... but if not, I think the "different rates" should apply immediately.
However, she confirmed the company has already secured access to power for the project’s initial power draw and will be charged BC Hydro’s standard commercial or industrial rates.

She added that if the project wanted to expand its capacity and consume more power, it would have to compete in the B.C. government’s new application process for AI and data centres and may be subject to different rates.

We're already going to be squeezed for power over the next decade, do we really need to add more pressure?
The boom also comes while BC Hydro expects the province will need up to an additional 9,700 gigawatt hours of additional electricity each year by 2035 — nearly double the current output of the Site C dam.

Love that the author goes on to both-sides this by hitting the One City statement with the ol' Merriam-Webster check.
OneCity Vancouver, represented on council by Lucy Mahoney and in the mayoral race with candidate William Azaroff, issued a news release following the mayor’s speech.

“He’s promising another tax freeze and a $400 million slush fund to pull the wool over the eyes of Vancouverites,” the release said.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a slush fund is “an unregulated fund often used for illicit purposes.”

That is not an accurate description of what the mayor pitched as a plan to upgrade community centres through the city’s legitimate capital plan process.

Unfortunately, I won't be going to GDC this year. It was an honour to have our talk selected and I was looking forward to it, and to catch up with my Bay Area friends. It's just not safe to cross the border, even to San Francisco. Someday soon, I hope.

This morning the ABC-majority council voted to pursue a 0% increase to property taxes for next year. The city staff's report recommended 5-7% just to maintain services. Every non-ABC councillor opposed. A number of opposition call-in comments usually only seen for rezoning motions. Passed 6-4.
