Wow! After we put out our call last week, we got donations from you! We paid 20 bonds in total last week, and 11 of those were $7,500 bonds set by ICE officers. BUT, 21 more PEOPLE are still waiting in detention right now because they can't pay these bonds.

In June I spoke on a panel alongside Jumaane Williams and others. Williams shared that "we have to content with the sad reality that the Black community is more conservative than we'd like to think". In my organizing experience, he aint wrong. Blk/Brwn liberals were my biggest opps around Defund.

I don't believe bell hooks was just speaking of the art world, but expansively, of us as a social body. We are afraid to engage in critique, we think negatively of it, and in turn flatten the utilization of it, thus ourselves. I think this fear of critique is a seedling of white gaze.
