Remarkably Bright Creatures - Shelby Van Pelt Light hearted and cheesy, easy read. I wasn't the biggest fan of it since I strongly disliked reading a particular character's perspective. Overall not bad, but not great either.

Authority - Jeff Vandermeer Sequel to Annihilation, was excited to get to this. Entirely different genre for this entry. Very different, and I prefer the first book, but still an interesting read. Meant to give you a lot of mundane detail so that the juicy parts hit harder.

We Burned So Bright - TJ Klune Shorter book from Klune this time. I loved this book, and he remains my favorite author. A series of episodic chapters following a couple as the world ends. It had a great mix of dark, happy, fantastical, and brutally real

Strange Houses - Uketsu Sadly this one fell flat for me. I liked the concept, the execution and story itself just didn't hit for me. It felt too convoluted of an answer for how things worked in a way that wasn't satisfying.

Vicious - V.E. Schwab Fun read that was easy to get through. I'll likely read the second book since it's only a duology, if there were more I'd probably just move on. I am interested in spending more time with these characters and seeing where it goes from here.

Heartsong - TJ Klune The third book in what might be my favorite series from my favorite author. This was my most anticipated book in the series from what I knew going in, and even though the book was vastly different than I expected, I still loved it.

If We Were Villains - M.L. Rio This was a strange book for me. I thought it was a slow start, I was into it for the middle and towards the end, but the ending itself fell flat for me. It didn't ruin the book, but it wasn't as satisfying as I would have liked.

Just Like Home - Sarah Gailey Another horror book I heard the premise of and decided to give a shot. Slow start with a very good middle. I just finished it a few minutes ago and I'm not fully sure how I feel about the ending. I think I disliked it, but I'm impressed by the swing.

Johannes Cabal the Necromancer by Jonathan L. Howard Picked this up on a whim when browsing a book shop and had a fun time reading it. It's a dark comedy that only after finishing did I learn is part of a series. I think I'll try the next book too since I have no idea where it would go next

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley This was on my list for a while. Sadly, I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped. Great story, but the execution was not my favorite. I understand what Mary was going for, and writing this when she did is impressive, but it got tough to read at times listening to Victor

Neuromancer by William Gibson Was excited to finally get through this book after hearing how influential it was. Super fun read that was interesting to see how much it invented vs combined in way to feel like a definitive cyberpunk work. Definitely worth checking out

We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer This book unfortunately fell flat for me. It wanted to be an approachable length while having a lot of hints and concepts for readers to speculate on. This left it feeling hollow, like it couldn't decide what it wanted to be.

Strange Pictures by Uketsu The premise is being presented with drawings and trying to see what clues are hidden in them, all through a narrative that slowly spells out what the mystery/answer is. Fun and short experience, but just an ok read. Good for a change of pace.

The King in Yellow by Robert W Chambers Finally got around to this book after hearing about it's impact for so long. It's just a subset of loosely linked short stories, making it a quick read. Worth checking out if you're into seeing a major inspiration for cosmic horror.

Babel by R.F. Kuang Fantastic work of historical fiction. Equal parts well written fiction, commentary on colonialism, and an english major info dumping on various language etymologies. Highly recommend.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller Great read, it's as gay and sad as I kept hearing it was. It lives up to the hype that's persisted for years. Loved it from beginning to end.

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke Great book that I checked out after having it recommended from multiple people of varying tastes. Loved the first half in particular for how well it made you understand the main character's thought process Easily goes in the category of books that any person could enjoy

Ravensong by TJ Klune Second book in the Green Creek series, and it continues everything I love from Wolfsong. It did a great job of filling in the gaps from the previous book without feeling like I was reading the same thing over again. Klune delivers again, and I can't wait for the next one.

A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers Another great book, I might like it more than the first one. A short read that had me smiling softly most of the way through as it had fun with philosophy. Left me feeling really calm and helped make me think that somehow, we'll all be ok.

Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer A great sci-fi read that also felt like a gothic horror story. Very different from the movie, which I'm a big fan of, but it still got its hooks in me. Definitely recommend checking it out for yourself, and I'm going to pick up the other books in the trilogy soon.

A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers A short, sweet novel I liked a lot. Maintains a light, slice of life feel while touching on religious and philosophical questions. An enjoyable read I can recommend for anyone, and I'm excited for the second in the duology.

The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward I expected a horror story and it ended up being a thriller. Had a very fun writing style that made good use of unreliable narrators in a way that made sense. Interesting read, definitely recommend checking it out
