Honestly, the pieces are coming together for a series of horrible events - the AI crash combined with a government shutdown and millions of poor and starving people encountering a racist invading federal force. I think we are but a hair’s breadth away from a vicious civil war.

So much has happened, a constant flux and pivoting with no solo time to muse and think. A lot of life and work and people stuff and very little creative stuff. And now here we are deep into October.

Written by Haley Harrison. www.nationalgeographic.com/history/arti... A quiet rebirth of a once-banned tattoo practice is taking place. Moeko Heshiki, one of the few remaining hajichaas, lays out her stick-and-poke tools with practiced care.

These sacred tattoos were banned in Okinawa. A new generation is bringing them back.
Once worn by nearly every Ryukyuan woman, these intricate hand tattoos were outlawed for over a century.

Beautiful, soul-stirring things are more precious than ever. Flowers on the table and a perennial friendship, handwritten notes and light through leaves. A well tended garden. Innocent laughter of children playing outside. Getting lost in an ancient town. And always the ocean.

Went to a wedding at the SF Presidio yesterday and as the evening came to a close, took this eerie pic of the cemetery.
Cemetery at San Francisco Presidio, night. Rows of uniform gravestones appear to glow from light of passing automobiles, contrasting with the gloom of fog-veiled old eucalyptus trees towering overhead.

There’s no way to convey the splendor of London in a few words or images. I’m still reeling from the pure visual excitement and energy. And I kept getting deja vu the whole week. Three things that made me immediately love this city: beautiful architecture, mastery of lighting, multicultural feast.
Thames and the city at night during an epic 6-pub crawl w colleaguesBerners Tavern, London. Splendid interior with ornate uplit ceiling, globe chandelier, walls covered in framed paintings, seated guests and wait staff moving in a blur. Like a fancy glowing wedding cake, Langham hotel seen across the entrance from blue-lit BBC at night. Dramatic slate grey sky. Recent rain creates reflections on the pavement. Two security staff in mid ground with neon green jackets and umbrella. Unfiltered pic but eerie effect. Purple pool table, spotlit, with ornate metallic legs that fascinated me in the surreal Phillipe Starck designed hotel Sanderson, I played poorly. It stands on a royal purple and gold rug. Mid century architecture with open staircase in background leading to floor one. Far wall composed of floor to ceiling abstract stained glass. Moody lighting, safari chairs stand in shadowy fringes of the room.

I have variations on a recurring grief dream about traveling somewhere by the ocean and feeling sudden, deep remorse in realizing I’d been in a self-absorbed daze or semi-conscious state and had forgotten to love the ocean enough. It’s too late, I’m leaving and never felt one with the sea.

Thing is, writing a book is always an act of faith. It takes so long, you never know what the world will look like by the time it gets out there. All you can do is write with as much truth as you can muster and hope it stands up to whatever is going on when it arrives.
