Curious as to whether anyone has figured out to only read the italicised sections... for the 'sekrit.' Is that why some reviewers hate it? But thats why I love it...its layers baby. Everything she writes is layered but this one is the first one thats just flat out a message hidden in the text.

Exactly. THE NIGHTWARD was inspired by Caribbean MYTHOLOGY, yet reviews said they couldn't 'see' the 'Caribbean' in it. I told you it was a secondary world sci fantasy, so excuse me? What even were your expectations? Coconut trees? Beaches? I mean... I'm not a tour guide & this ain't Burger King.

For clarity: This approach was intended to be used for rapid software development and iterative rollouts. If the software was imperfect you could quickly issue a patch or roll it back. It was never intended for real world applications like construction or healthcare or our entire legal framework!

Ok but how how did I not realise this Siobhan Carroll's novella "For He Can Creep" was based on this real poem! I saw it attributed at the end and never thought to look it up! It was a most excellent story. A nice way start my day with this...even as my own cat begins her duties. 🤦‍♀️

I think about this at least a dozen times a day.

people end up unable to see depiction as anything other than endorsement when their entire cultural diet is escapist fun and reassurance. they see something make them uncomfortable and can only assume people are watching horrible shit as vicarious pleasure and are horrified.
