Having spent too long reading about vans (for camper reasons), it's notable that the new Jaguar Type 01, noted for being very large, is basically the same size as a short wheel base Mercedes Sprinter. Like the vans that Amazon deliver stuff in (obviously less high) #carbloat #autobesity
Schematic showing length, wheelbase, width etc of Mercedes Sprinter. Length is 5267mm and width is 2020mmJaguar Type 01 in a light grey-blue, show-casing its exceptional length

✈️🌍 Who supports taxing air travel, and who doesn't? I talk a lot about the need to address air travel. So I'm very excited that our new paper on public support for carbon taxation of air travel in Denmark 🇩🇰 Read on for the key results👇🧵 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Given that Ireland is a top 3 country for prevalence, they're potentially excluding and trashing a lot of blood

In Ireland, they wait until you are down below 300 units of ferritin before they stop throwing it in the bin

Two PhD books, the top one on medication adherence with some blue geometric art. The lower one features a sketch of a courtroom, and is on immigration and accents

Oh, like I literally have just two random PhD books, and the Swedish one has a pencil or charcoal sketch on the front, and the NL one seems a bit more generic

Gave a talk in my dept. on the OSF transition. I wrote up a rough script of the session, which could be of interest to others. I synthesize existing resources and provide my own perspectives. Comments and corrections welcome! zenodo.org/records/2306...

Bread! more nutritious, more varied, and not just at the higher end of the spectrum, but even lots of mass produced supermarket bread has got better and more interesting

How big is big....? Really monstrous? I mean I do think you should be able to take a vertically parked cargo bike in, but that doesn't require a particularly big lift

I know about your car troubles, but what is wrong with your elevators? Are they some sort of coal-fired radioactive death trap?

Sorry, I didn't actually mean to impugn your specific meal, but more the idea of using sausages as the base of all sorts of meal (sweet and sour? stir-fries etc.). And also, New Zealand sausages are mostly cereals

James Green @ajamesgreen.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
It's more complicated than that. Canada and most of Europe are closer to places that can grow out of season fruit&vege than New Zealand, and because the NZD is weak, the export price sets a high local price

I can only speak to my experience of elsewhere, but the places I've been with the most compliant parking use fines and not clamps
000
James Green @ajamesgreen.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
there's some similar examples in New Zealand where they algorithmically detect vehicle occupancy to check bus and high occupancy lanes, where they only retain and process information about perceived infringement. And also do parking monitoring

trying a private browser might help, but it's possible it's somehow tailoring your results to the clear preference you've exhibited not to see the answer you want...

James Green @ajamesgreen.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
They need not surveil everything (though obviously they can). You can have the driver initiate capture, such that the driver is still acting like a parking warden. You see a car in a bus stop or a double yellow, and press a button

James Green @ajamesgreen.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Maybe it is different where you are, but I would describe the current system as completely non-functional in eg Limerick. To reduce surveillance, I'd be happy to limit it one-and-done fines (eg a car in a bus stop), and not routine capture of every car (to measure whether there is overstaying)

Maybe that is the secret to Irish 'values' : giving the correct answer when asked, which may have little relation to your behaviour
010
James Green @ajamesgreen.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
I think this is a great question to ask of them. I'd also love to know how they plan to "measure" this, because as a psychology researcher, I assume it's just going to be a set of multiple-choice questions that will measure ability to memorise the right answers

It's at least a bit on the BBC. The police spokesperson correctly described them as e-motorbikes, and then the BBC went with e-bikes in the headline

Must ebikes do not have motor locking. We have motors from Bosch, bafang, Shimano, Ananda and aikema, and nine if then offer this. Some newer Bosch do I think, but still not widespread Was more thinking about a steering lock that might require cutting the frame to unlock

While I super agree with this, I also think we should be thinking about replicating some of the security functions that cars have that immobilize them, in addition to offering secure parking

New study suggests that a shortage of secure bike parking is limiting e-bike adoption. Glad to see this issue getting attention. It's intuitive that people with quasi-secure bike storage might be OK risking a pedal bike, but not an e-bike that's more expensive. doi.org/10.1016/j.tr...
