"The simplest reason to refuse resignation is that resignation can only harmonize with the tech-industry narrative of AI inevitability. When we give in, we join the sales force." From our Fall 2025 issue:

Large Language Muddle | The Editors
The AI upheaval is unique in its ability to metabolize any number of dread-inducing transformations. The university is becoming more corporate, more politically oppressive, and all but hostile to the humanities? Yes — and every student gets their own personal chatbot. The second coming of the Trump Administration has exposed the civic sclerosis of the US body politic? Time to turn the Social Security Administration over to Grok. Climate apocalypse now feels less like a distant terror than a fact of life? In three years, roughly a tenth of US energy demand will come from data centers alone.

Not sure how this sits alongside SOA initiatives like "human authored" or the class action against Anthropic... feels like talking out of both sides of your face...🧐

"AI hunting" is going in the same direction as "plagiarism hunting": The career of the white Nobel Laureate, who freely admitted to using gen AI, remains unscathed... Yet the careers of the POC or Global South writers accused of using AI will likely never fully recover even if proved to be false 😞

I've read lots of AI slop at this stage and honestly saw few red flags in that story. I actually really enjoyed it, which I guess means I have very bad taste! This is an extremely bad faith article, go pick on Olga Togarcuk, ffs, she's admitted to using AI!

The Atlantic article reeks of the latest wave of AI scaremongering: "AI skeptics need to use AI detection software so they can better spot AI!" And the snake eats its tail...

The red flags actually came from the article itself: why are AI tools being used to "detect" AI? Why are Atlantic writers chasing down prizewinners of random literary awards? Why are the only POC or Global South writers coming under suspicion? Especially when a nobel Laureate admitted to using AI?!?

There was a chorent story, with a logical progression, a consistent narrative voice, use of language that felt real, not the overly ornate senseless writing I've seen in other gen AI suspected stories...

I read the #caineprize winning story and, maybe this means I have very bad taste as the writer of this article suggests, but I really enjoyed it, not least because my partner used to make & sell very elaborate fishtanks... Aside from that I actually spotted very few AI red flags...

Birthing people are regularly prohibited from taking home their own placenta because it's considered hazardous medical waste, but if there's a chance of securing a man an er♤ction then let it be: "placentas for all!"
Screenshot of promoted news content on fb detailing: Erectile dysfunction is common after prostate cancer surgery, but wrapping thin sheets of dried placenta around exposed nerves during the procedure may allow faster recovery. A review of thousands of surgeries suggests that this approach enables an erection within one week of surgery, compared with two weeks without the intervention.

“To help men get better erections, we’re using donations [of placentas] from women,” says Shirin Razdan at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in Miami.

So over the performative male solidarity in the wake of the #cornell7 case... yes it's horrific, but we've had over a decade of horror between, Brock Turner, #metoo and the E*stein files, not to mention countless other cases of VAW & SVW that don't make international headlines... so why now???

So over the holier-than-thou "Irish people are uniquely positioned to understand colonialism" takes that have been floating about the last few days... Because, 1) it's a-historical because Irish people often participated in settler-colonialism & enslavement throught the British Empire and beyond...
