I don’t even hate the song (though I would never intentionally put it on myself). But the author is being disingenuous if they can’t admit that Langley’s record probably says much more about our algorithm than it does about The State of America. (Though that’s part of it too, kind of.)

I’ve never encountered “Choosin’ Texas” out in the wild; I only know it exists because I listen to like, three different music-focused podcasts and they all discussed its Billboard chokehold. The average person goes to the movies maybe 2-3xs a year (?); can’t imagine blaming that on “liberal silos”

Right?! She's unquestionably Hollywood's most bankable Gen Zer (CHALLENGERS/THE DRAMA wouldn't have reached the heights they did w/o her), so I could totally see her going the Emma Stone route and launching her own production company. If she does, perhaps those projects would look different.

In the past she’s suggested that she’s aware of how colorism works in Hollywood and that she’s wary of taking roles away from darker skinned actresses, but that calculation has led her to go after roles that were not written with a black woman in mind and so we get..her film career thus far.

Lol This is where I admit I've never watched STUDIO 60 and only know it as a punching bag. But I'm fairly certain Fallon has been far more insidious and materially detrimental to the culture given our current state of everything, so that, to me, feels way more concerning

I'm in the camp that feels SAUL is leagues better/more interesting than BB -- and I loved BB, even if I haven't revisited it since it ended

Alec Baldwin does not necessarily deserve any defense, but every famous person I saw named at least one of their own shows. (including Giancarlo Esposito, who chose both SAUL and BB! and we love him anyway!

Makes sense--the live-action remake from a few years ago ditched the songs, from what I remember. The song's fun! Just not top-tier Disney, I'd say.
