Here’s a look at @amtrakcascades.wsdot.wa.gov coach cars. It seems @amtrak.com learned from its mistakes made in the Midwest & NextGen Acela cars and refined it all. It’s great. Seats are actually comfortable with true articulated recline , huge windows, USB-C ports, functional signage. Wow!

Good morning and welcome aboard @amtrakcascades.wsdot.wa.gov train 516, featuring the brand new Airo trainset still in its first week of service. I been writing about this massive Amtrak fleet renewal since 2021 so I’m very excited to get on board and see it! runwaygirlnetwork.com/2021/07/amtr...

The headline is incorrect. You don’t need a smartphone. The article itself even says that

No you do not. Any phone with SMS capability works, and you can get a card to open the door from local libraries.

I hate him so much but Starlink really is in a class of its own right now. It’s the fastest and also most reliable in the sky.
362 Mbps down. 55.3 up. 38 ms ping.

Lunch time! Lots of pre-order options. I went with Italian style braised short rib, which was good but missing a bit of flavor. We also ordered the chicken breast but that wasn’t available for some reason. Got the Cuban style short rib instead and that was better. Also got 2,500 miles for the mixup.

That was as seamless a 1 hour and 20 minute connection at ORD can go. Has lunch in the United Club, walked over to the next gate, we pushed back a minute early and went straight to the runway. Doesn’t get better than that! Well, my originally booked nonstop flight out of EWR would have been nice.

I travel with the last version of Chromecast HD to watch on hotel TVs, but it often has issues with hotel WiFi portals. How does this handle it?

Good afternoon and welcome on board United flight UA1660, with nonstop service from ORD to SEA. It’s another 737-800, but with a newer product. Oh, and I paid for a First Class upgrade. We’ve got Starlink and live TV on this aircraft, but oddly the screens aren’t offering the ability to log-in.

Jason Rabinowitz @airlineflyer.net · 01/10/2026
And there’s a downstairs set of gates here?!
010
Jason Rabinowitz @airlineflyer.net · 01/10/2026
My connecting flight to SEA is out of ORD’s G gates, which is not where you want to be departing from. Spirit sold these gates off to United for $30M right before its demise, now a select for United departures a day are subjected to…this. These gates are common use so there’s no United niceties.

Jason Rabinowitz @airlineflyer.net · 01/10/2026
Hello from ORD! I thought United’s seatback screens would provide a bit more personalized information for connections, but it just lists everyone’s connection which is nothing new for airlines. The iOS app, which may even have too much info these days, is doing its best to guide me to my next gate.

I was originally in a nonstop from EWR but they canceled my 11a departure months ago and I didn’t want to move to a 7a so I moved to one stop from LGA.

Good morning and welcome on board United flight UA1310 with nonstop service from LGA to…wait…I can’t get to SEA nonstop from LGA. I can’t remember the last time I had a domestic connecting itin. I’m going through ORD and seeing how @united.com does. First up is this 737-800 in Star Alliance livery.

Jason Rabinowitz @airlineflyer.net · 01/10/2026
This kinda stinks. It only has 2025-now, and contains no flights that didn’t have the UA MP number. So my last United flight that I had my B6 number on? Didn’t happen.

A while back Scott Kirby said something like he wishes they could buy Flighty or have his own teams deliver stuff like it. Seems they did exactly that. Actually, the data looks identical to Flighty. They’re definitely partnered here somehow. But why data only back until last year?

Everyone knows that your workforce instantly becomes “more attentive and hospitable” if you force them to stand and interact with the general public for 8 hours a day.

Not sure but yea now that you mention it, maybe! Crazy that DOT didn’t put out anything about this, but I love it. Do shit first, have people complain about it later when it becomes impossible to remove.

Yea! Still not sure what the final form of this looks like, but it looks to be a big improvement on Jay St!

The biggest unsubstantiated fear the Adams admin and other pols made was that the Ashland Place bike lane would somehow destroy Brooklyn Academy of Music, that the bike lane is incompatible with its curb requirements But here we are in reality and this may be the cleanest bike lane detour citywide

There’s no easy solution. If the trapped passenger was in the first car there’s precious few seconds between starting to move and entering a very dark tunnel where nobody is going to see anything at that distance. This is one of the few cases where a passenger should have pulled the emergency brake

DOT didn't mill the B54 layover area pavement so I assume that's not changing. As for the rest, I have no idea what's happening.

Jason Rabinowitz @airlineflyer.net · 29/09/2026
Exacty correct. I have no idea what the final form of this is, but hopefully it's an improvement! I haven't seen plans anywhere.

This is the east side of the street, closest to Myrtle promomade and the B54 layover.

OOF OOF OOF. Very few airlines go down this route of installing IFE screens only for premium seats on modern aircraft. I think Copa did this on its 737-9 and that's it? bsky.app/profile/wand...

I don’t think the rolling stock matters. Not even the R211 has any exterior cameras. Train crew may be able to view interior cameras, but once they start moving those CCTV platform monitors move out of view.
