The cissonance, truly 🫠 Wrapping up a handbook chapter on the FOUR-century historiography of "berdache"/2S now & can finally confirm what we've been thinking: *it is a history of trans women* (& v marginally trans men), from the 16th C onwards. Almost nothing cis gay or "third gender" about it lol.
