White man and woman kissing. Text: [This form of making love allows me to experience complete trust and to joyfully acknowledge all of my sexual and emotional needs. To me, the beauty of SM is in its paradoxes: Through the intensity of pain, we give ourselves more completely to each other than in perhaps any other way; through the exploration of fantasy, we are more honestly ourselves than at perhaps any other time.]

Quote from Cuts and Criminality: Body Alteration in Legal Discourse by Theodore Bennett (2015). Photo from Phoenix No 22 (1985).
White woman with gray hair and purple schoolteachers outfit and wooden cane. Text: [Punishment within the legal system is deliberate and purposive, an impersonal and almost automatic mechanism that is used for calibrating behavior. In contrast, punishment within sadomasochism has no purpose other than to fulfill the subjective desire for punishment by the participants themselves. It is deeply personal, sometimes sexualised and nearly always divorced from all but the flimsiest conception of wrong-doing. Sadomasochism's revelation that punishment is not necessarily the by-product of wrong-doing, and that punishment is something that can be desired and enjoyed, threatens a juridical order based on the use and threat of negative punishment to control wrong-doing.]

It is notw hat you wear, what you look like, what gender you are or how old you are. Being a boy is about respect for yourself and others, being playful sometimes even mischievous, being submissive yet knowing it is also okay to be dominant. Quote from How to Be a Pervert: A Modest Philosophical Critique of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders by Patrick Singy (Revista de Estudios Sociales, 2011). Photo from Wicked Women Vol 2 No 6 (ca 1987).
White man with white womans foot on his face. Text: Regarding the value aspect of disease, I think the most urgent task for psychiatrists is to make their values explicit (Fulford 2002). For instance, if psychiatrists want to continue making fetishism into a disorder, they need to lay out the notion of sexuality that they value to justify the validity of this diagnosis. I am quite certain that once the values behind psychiatric diagnoses are out in the open, some of the DSM diagnoses will lose much of the aura of scientificity that they still have today in the lay public. It would become clearly visible, for instance, that the psychiatrists who are dealing with the paraphilias rely on traditional values that are out-of-sync with those of modern liberal societies.]

Two women with light brown skin, one older holding the younger one over her lap by the hair. Text: [The fact that an image does not appeal to a viewer does not mean that the actors or models experienced revulsion while making it. The fact that an image depicts coercion does not mean that the actors or models were forced into doing it.

One can infer nothing from the content of an image about the conditions of its production. Any discussion of greater protections for actors and models should focus on whether or not they have been coerced and on the conditions under which their work is performed /regardless of the nature of the image involved/.]
