darwin's ytpmv "Girl Like U" is so awesome to me because it samples meltdrum's ytpmv "bodybuilder" for its intro, which itself samples cheezorg's animation "youre too much" for its stick. This means the Lemon Demon song "The Too Much Song"'s inclusion in Girl Like U is three transformations deep

currently having fun cobbling together a (basic) 2d game engine! it's very limited at the moment, but you could theoretically throw an entire game together with what's there! though, i wouldn't recommend it

When a menu has a neat little tween. Or a character has a funny little animation. Somebody out there spent days making that little detail perfect. And when you’re playing a game you’re blasted with like 50 of these little things per minute. Games are so rich with human life! It’s awesome!!!

I think I struggle a lot in Permitting Myself The Ability To Fail when drawing, that is to say that the fear of doing something Not Good Enough prevents me from drawing a lot of the times I want to. I need to like, deliberately try and do "bad art" or something to break the expectation of perfection

all the powerwashing/cleaning zen games on steam and none of them properly descend into psychological horror like I wish they would. they're all jokey gags or poorly made. I need like a REAL horror powerwashing simulator type game. Like the SCP type games from a decade ago that were truly scary

REALLY good read, highly recommend. Its crazy how prescient a lot of this feels for being 30 years old; Miyamoto talking about how games are just Sequels and Sequels, or about how putting a massive team to cg will just lead to a "blockbuster mentality." Also this quote from Eno is very good.

Eno: I felt a real danger that games were becoming too niche and catering only to maniacs. People might say, "What differences can a single creator make?" but an individual creator actually carries a lot of weight."

Cool interview... there's lots to chew on, but one thing I'm struck by is *how* devoted Miyamoto is to the idea of capturing a big audience. Surprising in how often he brings it up unprompted as well as how conflicted he seems to feel about it. What would unrestrained Miyamoto be like, I wonder...?
