@agustsea.bsky.social this made me think of Hard To Be A God 🤭

A screenshot of a tumblr post featuring an image with the words:
“When I search the ‘internalized homophobia’ tag on ao3 and I get the ‘im not gay’ type of internalized homophobia and not the ‘I lay down with a man. I lay down with the DEVIL. And he has roots in ME, all his spindly roots in me. And I can’t think NOTHING anymore but his voice and his words. Please, HELP ME’ type of internalized homophobia”
A comment below this image reads “yk the fics gunna be good when it’s tagged Catholicism”

[The Vertical Ray Of The Sun] 🏷️ Merman Park Jimin 🏷️ Pearl Diver Jeon Jungkook 🏷️ Historical Fantasy 🏷️ Forbidden Love 🏷️ Slow Burn archiveofourown.org/works/60530668 *This fic is part of the Jikook secret santa gift exchange*

Summary:
They say that the Emperor is mad. They say that when he was a boy, he almost drowned, and since that day, he’s grown obsessed with capturing the pale creature that saved him from the ocean’s gaping maw. They say that’s why the coastal villages are overrun with his soldiers, they say that's why Joseon’s artists are only permitted to paint strange beasts with pearly fangs.

They say a lot of things, but Jeon Jeongguk is just a poor pearl diver, living a simple life on the rural island of Jeju with his adoptive mother. The whims and wills of a distant madman have nothing to do with him- or so he believes, until one day, trapped beneath a swiftly sinking net, he comes face to face with a creature straight out of a painting.
