Tibetan mom and baby at the veggie market M6/50SM, Tri-X #filmphotography #photography #streetphotography
A black and white photo of a young Tibetan mother in traditional dress and a baby slung to her back by a shawl. THey’re at a street produce market. The woman smiles as she talks to someone out of the frame and she has the most beautiful smile and vibe.

Very beautiful. I have struggled to get any IR effect out of the Rollei infrared film but I will give it a try again, as we're still in early summer. What wavelength is your filter?

Doggo in the Wood He paused for a second to give me this image and then was gone 😊 Bayhurst Wood, 2020 Fuji GS645 & Ilford HP5+ film #believeinfilm #lightandshadow #bnwsouls #womencreating #womensart #talesofisolation
Black and white photo of a dog standing on a path in woodland. Light is filtering through the trees as she/he pauses, perhaps listening out for her/his owner’s voice. It’s cool and quite under the shade of the trees.

Very true. I unfortunately miss out on a lot of potentially positive interactions due to not checking in often enough but I am trying to become more constant.

I like the compressed look! I think I know the feeling of wanting to take less photos of a certain type of scene or subject.

Does anyone know if there's somewhere in Haneda Airport that sells Traveler's Company notebooks? I'm travelling to Japan in Oct and would prefer to buy locally but I would want to start collecting Eki stamps as soon as I arrive.

Is this due to the seal of the film canister not being tight enough?

Peter @agbr.bsky.social · 10/05/2026
Transparent bag? 😀

Peter @agbr.bsky.social · 10/05/2026
The old trick of cutting a hole in a plastic bag and tape it around the lens hood, with the camera securely in the bag, should work super well with AE/AF cameras, no? I mean, I used to do it with an MF system many years ago but that wasn't really practical.

Weather sealing is not critical for me. Are we even sure the seals are still tight on these ≈ 25y old cameras?

Peter @agbr.bsky.social · 10/05/2026
I understand that. There are even some functions on the 7 that are not as well-implemented on the 9 IMO. What makes me keep the 9 is its sturdiness, especially after what happened to my 5 at Easter and in light of the alleged weak points of the 7. OK, I also really love the ergonomics of the 9...

Yes, the front of the lens does move out quite a bit as you "zoom" from 4x to 4.5x magnification, but it's not really a focus mechanism. You achieve a sharp image from moving the camera back and forth, so I'll have to put it on a rail. It's not an expensive lens but optical quality seems to be OK.

Tea is lovely. My father drank it both morning and afternoon, never coffee, and it was great that he always had a freshly brewed pot in the kitchen. Since I moved out of my childhood home, I've sadly lost the habit of drinking good tea.

So, why did I buy a 4x-4.5x macro lens? The answer is: I don't know. I suppose that there are interesting compositions to be found even at that scale of magnification. I shall try to find some...

I think you've caught this gentleman's eyes extremely well. He has this mildly surprised expression. It looks completely professional and, to me, has sort of a manga vibe to it. I find myself wanting to read the rest of the story 🙂

Peter @agbr.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
It's very expensive. I fully understand why the use is so limited. Also, some C-41 emulsions are genuinely fantastic. I know it's a controversial opinion but, having e.g. Ektar 100, I personally don't really feel a strong need for the return of Kodachrome.
110
Peter @agbr.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
Completely, and this looks good! Yes, I think it would be difficult to pull it off but maybe if you first 'dial in' the look you want with a digital camera and then attempt to repeat the effect with the same zoom lens on a film camera?
110
Peter @agbr.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
Though I love several C-41 emulsions, if I could, I would do all my colour work on Provia 100 because I feel the look sits somewhere in the middle of all the other films I've tried: renders both pastel and strong colours beautifully, works well in both strong sunlight and on overcast days.

Peter @agbr.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
Super-good idea. I did that for years, and was also occasionally able to go out and take just a couple of images during a coffee or lunch break. For me, the key was to always pack a compact kit so I could carry both photo equipment and work stuff in the same backpack.

Peter @agbr.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
Nice effect! I've been considering using a zoom lens and a long exposure to do something similar but this is a really great way to focus all the attention to the centre of the image.
