I’ll share more details soon, but there’s a teaser near the end of this article about a piece of news I’ve been sitting on for one of my authors for months that we can now share. Congrats to @agathechavelucas.bsky.social for having three books with the new imprint Norton Waverly from @wwnorton.com!

I haven’t posted about Blackberry in a while, because she was sick, but she’s now feeling better! She had a urinary infection that required two different antibiotic treatments (and a very expensive vet consultation)… Here she is wrapped up in a towel, ready to get her meds! #caturday

“Do not feed the unicorns” I (very) often complain about Paris, but now and then it still absolutely stuns me... (Also, I’ve been living in this neighborhood for 4 years and seen the unicorn tapestry in the museum just behind, so how could I have missed this????) #stunday
A sign on a fence that reads “Ne pas nourrir les licornes” (do not feed the unicorns). Behind the fence is a medieval building, which is part of the Middle Ages museum.

I already knew for a thousand different reasons that my agent was a great fit, but here's extra proof... (Also, is now the right time to mention I've added a cat named Pétale to my manuscript, just because every story's better with a cat and how could I have not included one before?????)

I never would have thought so a few years ago, but I can’t wait for winter to arrive again (and for the temperatures to go down). This picture was taken in January 2026 in Paris. #stunday

Blackberry the multimodal cat (thanks @actfortransit.bsky.social for calling her that!) took the ferry again. She’s very intrigued by the general concept of boats — and of things floating on water — though she hasn’t quite figured it out yet… #caturday

I am not an illustrator but my poetry is very visual & tied to visual art. Here’s a poem/illustration inspired by ancient Iranian vases (~4000 BC, more info in alt text) about nature & our forgetfulness. I am a YA author & poet rep’d by Michelle Witte. #kidlitartpostcard #imageandverse
A mother leopard and her cub at the bottom of a hill; at the top a mountain goat and a human behind a tree with spiral leaves.

All throughout the illustration the words of a poem:

the flick of a tail,
a leap, clean as an arrow
that pierces the sky.

watching eyes,
in awe, in fear, in wonder,
in tears & agony.

fingers, dipped in black,
itching to capture
what they cannot comprehend.

millennia & yet
so little has changed;
we are the same,
except when we
(choose to) forget.A vase exhibited in the Louvre museum, excavated at Tepe Sialk (modern-day Iran, province of Isfahan), dating back to 3500-4000 BC.
At the top of the vase are leopards all following each other; underneath there are geometric patterns.

Seen today in Paris on the Simone de Beauvoir bridge in the 13th arrondissement. The mother duck was very determined and knew exactly where she was going (the bridge leads to a park). The resourcefulness of animals always amazes me (and gives me hope too)... #stunday

Sorry for ruining the cuteness of #caturday but how is it that, when the world is literally burning, some, instead of extinguishing the flames, use cats (????) to spread fires? Blackberry is deeply concerned and telling everyone to respect water (and cats, and nature) and stay hydrated…
Snapshot from a France24 article saying: “Thousands of emergency workers in Italy battled scores of fires in Sicily and the Calabria region, where a local official said arsonists had started fires by tying rags soaked in flammable liquid to the tails of stray cats to spread the flames.

One firefighter died after falling ill while battling the flames in Sicily, the interior minister said.”

Here's a slightly weird (maybe not weird enough?) poem for #WeirdPoemWednesday about being small (thanks @tomsnarsky.bsky.social !)
Small

I am small
& my younger self
would have wanted more;

she'd have thought
I'd be big by now
(big name, big prize, big house)

but instead I am tiny,
maybe even smaller
than who I used to be.

tiny as the piece of bone
worn smooth with salt & sun
I picked up on the beach today;

tiny as the beige-and-black butterfly
lying in a dappled patch of light
I let out through the window today;

tiny as the poem
I spent today writer;
tiny as today.

I am small
but maybe I'd rather stay
just like that.

We found this baby bird in the garden today (there was a lot of wind and we couldn’t find the nest) so we’ve put him in a cardboard box and have been feeding him with a syringe… We think it’s a goldfinch (and hope we’ll manage to keep him alive) #birdoftheday

Despite her love of travel — she took the boat again this week — Blackberry also loves to stay in bed all day long to nap. During her morning naps (whose rules are very different from afternoon ones), she often disappears under the covers — and often scares me because I can’t find her… #caturday

I’m (clearly) not an illustrator but my poetry is very visual (& visualizing poems often gives me inspiration), so here’s a tree/poem about falling down. #kidlitartpostcard I’m a YA author and poet, rep’d by Michelle Witte. #ImageandVerse
A tree whose leaves are falling with a fox underneath. A poem is handwritten between the falling leaves:

with every gust of wind
with every curious hand
with every flight of birds
with every fall
you fall / fall / fall

you fall & do not try
to rise again

you fall & know the beauty
of being down

you fall & slowly learn
to become other

you fall but it is not
the end at all

After a week of literally living in an oven (turning on the fan felt like putting on the convection mode), it finally cooled down in Paris yesterday night with the storms. I managed to get some lightning bolts with the Eiffel Tower (perk of a hellish studio under the roofs) #STUNday #photography

Happy #caturday! Blackberry the multimodal cat (thanks @actfortransit.bsky.social for calling her that) loves the train, because she can chill on the seats and eat whenever she’s hungry. (She also really prefers low-carbon modes of transportation when it’s possible)

For health reasons Blackberry cannot stay alone for more than 6 hours so she goes wherever we go! As an island dweller, she often takes the boat (also the plane, car, bus, train, metro)… She’s a great traveling companion (napped on my knees most of the way in the ferry today)! #caturday

I used to care about the too-frequent laughs the whistles the oohs and aahs the head shakes and eye rolls I used to care to feel the burn of unshed tears and bottled shame but the truth is: a body is a body is a body but the truth is: my body is my body is my body.

Not quite sure what it means about humanity that The Epic of Gilgamesh, one of the oldest literary works written ~ 2000BC, is literally about a tyrannical king who abuses men and women for fun and whose main goals in life are to destroy the world's forests and become immortal...

It's usually quite fun to be on an island with wild goats...but it's much less fun when the dogs decide to chase after the goats and I have to chase after the dogs chasing after the goats. (In the second blurry picture, the dogs are the two dots ahead of me and the goats are near the rocks)

I'm not an illustrator (as you can obviously see), but my poetry is very visual & plays with space & shape, so I thought I'd post a little drawing of how I pictured a poem. #KidLitArtPostcard I'm a YA author and poet, rep'd by Michelle Witte.

she was reminded
again & again
that there would be

What better way to work on a (dead) manuscript than with a tiny & very live monster? #KidlitZombieWeek Literary sacrifice/murder is often my way of reviving stories (as in literally chopping off the head & the limbs of the story to get back to its heart)

If you've ever been supremely annoyed by someone telling you that a woman who was "the first woman" to have done something in her field didn't "really" count because tons of men had done it before, then you'll love Tapputi! She was one of the first known chemists (regardless of gender) in 1200 BC!🧪✨

Did you know that there already were petroleum wars in the 18th century BC in Mesopotamia? You can learn all about it (and a lot of other things) in the exhibit Primordial Water and its associated trail, on which I've been working for 3 years, and that just opened in the Louvre Museum!
