"I am sorry that you were unable to get much in the way of restorative sleep," she sighed, starting to pack away the rest of their belongings.
"Oh?" He felt plenty refreshed. "Did I snore?" He teased.
She looked up from the saddlebag with a small chuckle. "No, you slept quite peacefully until.." Her brows pinched together. "Do you remember your dreams?"
"Only impressions, feelings," he admitted. But despite the suffocating fear that clawed at his throat from the inside out, he was far more interested in the end of his dream, in the manner in which he awoke from them.
"But I do remember that you were holding me in your arms," he said with a smirk.
"Yes, well," the tips of her ears went pink. "You nearly rolled straight into the fire while sleeping. I could not allow you to burn alive. The Southlanders need their King."

"I let him go," she answered.

"What happened, Galadriel?" The King pressed impatiently.

A frown slowly formed on Elrond's brow. "I do not understand. What did he do to you?"

"He was only trying to protect me," she explained, flexing her hand that bore his ring.

Elrond looked down at the silver ring. Then slowly, reluctantly let go of her hand. "Tell me it is not true," he pleaded in a low voice.

After gaining her bearings on the sandy shore, the first thing she observed about the Southlander man was the lack of a waterskin on his person or in his cloak. Strangely, he had nothing else with him but the clothes on his back, a sword, and a necklace that bore his sigil.

If she had not been on the verge of collapse from cold and exhaustion, she would have been more insistent that they continued inland until she found water. But she had felt her hröa weakening with every passing minute since she lost her strength in the water.

The cold that had penetrated her to the bone frightened her more than she would ever admit. The wind in the night had seemed unnatural this far south. She could not help but wonder whether it was a punishment from Manwë for refusing the call to return home. But if the Valar were truly paying her any mind, she had to thank Ulmo for seeing her to the exact shore where the Southlander saved her not once, but twice.

Even before he wrapped his cloak around them, she had felt his heat bleeding into her. He was as warm as a furnace, his arm a pleasant weight around her shoulders that kept her grounded against the wind.

She missed his warmth already.

But she did not cross that bitter ocean only to give up. The enemy was near. She could feel the darkness closing in, the scent of smoke carried by the wind.

And she could only hope the Southlander's camp had water. That it would cease the throbbing pain in her head. She heard him behind her now, footfalls heavy as any man. She bit down on her lip to resist smiling, but she was pleased he had decided to follow her.
