Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

I checked out this Art of Ray Harryhausen book from the library and there was a lot of cool stuff in it. I learned a lot about early film special effects, too! Having fun isn't hard when you have a library card!

Catholic here, loving Leo so far. Also want to throw in this: Source: Daniel Mitsui, artist who does a mix of secular and Catholic sacred art, who is also a consistent AI hater to no one's surprise. www.danielmitsui.com/00_pages/no_...
Text in the image: "according to legend, Albertus Magnus had spent thirty years devising an oracular head, a mechanical device that could answer questions posed to it. Thomas Aquinas smashed it to pieces. Different versions of the story say that this was out of annoyance, or of fright; I prefer to think that St. Thomas had prophetic insight into the evils such device could and would cause. While I generally avoid putting my religious drawings on everyday merchandise, I thought that this small scene was timely and appropriate and humorous enough to make an exception." There is a drawing of two men inside a medieval monasterty. One of them is St. Thomas Aquinas, and he is poised to swing a large club at a bust on a pedestal, which presumably is Albert the Great's 'oracular head'. The other is Albert, and he is running toward Thomas with a look of shock on his face, hands out to stop him. There is also text that says "KILL YOUR CHATBOT" and a header that says "artwork by Daniel Mitsui, www.danielmitsui.com"

I know most of you guys don't go on the other app but the pope posted an anti AI/ pro artists statement yesterday, and the ensuing cope and memes is really funny
Pope Leo XIV
@Pontifex

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.2016: I will never fight a holy war

2019: Pope Leo I am ready launch me towards the nearest data centersome AI guy saying he makes christian children's books with AI asking the pope if that is ok then and someone posting a meme react with the pope holding a baseball bat saying 'did I stutter'

Oh hey! You happen to know DQ, good :) This design is honestly even worse (even DQ III female warrior used a helmet!) But at least in DQ IX the equipment on your character is visible, which doesn't appy in III...
010
ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Now, to be far, DQ III was pretty progressive when it was released in 1988, You could have visibly female characters in your party and even choose your Hero's gender. But ironically, the uber "empowered" female warriors in it are actually more objectified than the fanservice-focused class :P

ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
BUT! There are also the Soldier class, whose female design is even MORE sexualized, despite the fact that she's supposed to be a tank character. She looks more like she's wearing a costume for stripper club than anything

ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
You actually made me find the perfect example of that differentiation! (Kinda) Dragon Quest III for example, has the Goof-offs class, and the female design happens to be VERY sexualized, which isn't a big deal, as they're joke class, so it's fitting that she doesn't dress like an adventurer.

Wow, I thought that they were mostly dismissed! I'm sure it has to do with the spaces I'm in tho, I follow a lot of channels talking about historical weaponry/armory and debunking fantasy tropes and whatnot.

ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Nor should you :P what do you think differentiates sexualization from objectification? A lot of the time it feels vibes based to me lol

ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
(Are there other people arguing over that?)

ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
For that matter, I don't wanna somehow sound accusatory AT ALL when I ask this, but, do you admit that you object women yourself with that drawing (and perhaps by extension your other pin-up stuff)? I think it was that word that bugged me a little.
100
ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I suppose, I was mostly talking about the empowering aspect as a hypothetical lol. Also, I feel like your design just *feels* different from the usual boob armor design, it's far more "subtle" in a sense, and that diminishes the "objectification" aspect too.

ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Funnily enough, FF XII of all games does that to a degree (notice all the exposed skin on the soldiers)

ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Yes, the best solution to objectification is of course, sexualizing both women AND men /lh
110
ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Also, aren't boobs generally considered aesthetically pleasing by both genders? (I mean as a t-girl myself, I do count at the very least :P). You could argue that they'd just find their boob armor good-looking, so it's not *just* beauty standards being imposed.
100
ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I was thinking more in terms of your design specifically. But if it won't work even there then oh well.
100
ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I thought that would be the case too. Although to be honest, I do also think that it wouldn't be all too unrealistic for people to choose less practical equipment (to a degree of course) simply because it makes them look good :P

ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Yeeeeeaaa I explained that in a later comment, it's more like there's historical *precedent* for horny armor designs ya know.
010
ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Makes me wonder if that could be fixed by maybe making the bulge thicker to compensate for that? I dunno.
100
ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Now that I think about it, I think what I wanted to get across is less that they're equivalent and more so that there's *some* precedent for horny armor design, even if the intent is different.
120
ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Also, is that problem you mentioned with boob armor something that also applies to the one you drew? It *looks* a bit more pratical than the usual ones I see. And I also wonder if codpieces aren't also pratical (I'm not sure, I never really researched this much for... well, obvious reasons >>)
100
ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I mean, in one way or another, many women are nonetheless proud of their breasts. I could see a way of that being empowering, even if the intent is usually not that by many artists. (Not to mention, I doubt that there weren't men who didn't also use codpieces as a way to show off to the ladies >>)
200
ÆonShenanigans @aeontheuser.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I agree, it's more so that whenever people ask what would the point of it even be. I'm always reminded of codpieces and I'm like, "Well, if the men can have THAT I suppose women are more than allowed to accentuate their bossoms with armor eh"

This is why I hate "just a tool" so so so much. You can make a calculator without access to every calculation. You can make photoshop without access to all photos. Someone show me a genai tool that didn't require all of our labour in its production. It's plagiarism software.
