(MiG-23) all ISK-1A mach/airspeed limits. changes with selected (not actual) wing sweep as denoted by the little triangle on the scale. pretty convenient instrument as you'll know exactly when your wings will fall off at any sweep. also cool that they let you go mach 1.5 at 30° sweep. (1/2)

🧵 the design of the ASP-23 (MiG-23M) HUD is pretty funny to me. It's essentially an oldschool gunsight and a genuine heads up display crammed into a single unit Simultaneously very ahead of its time with its display of radar/IRST contacts, and yet still clutching to the electromechanical past

MiG-23 development timeline🧵 Go-ahead for the lift-jet equipped MiG-23PD (aircraft 23-01) to be built is given in a goverment decree, issued on 30 April, 1965. Its flight of was with P. M. Ostapenko at the controls, on 3 April, 1967. However, the lift-jet aided STOL solution was quickly abandoned.

Instant Su-33 anywhere on the planet, delivery in the order of "tens of minutes". I'd seen rendered concepts of this thing and always assumed they were just shitposts from deranged forum users - but no! Turns out this was a serious proposition from a respected engineer named Г.Е. Лозино-Лозинский.
