The distribution of <dʾ> particle in Ḥimyarite inscription is mostly in the Tihāmah where the ḤBŠT settled and mixed with the locals. The negator also appears in an Aksumite inscription (RIÉ 192) containing other unique linguistic features of a language ancestral to Təgre-Dahālik spoken in Adulis.

Finally, the new #Ge'ez grammar from Stefan Weninger is out! This should replace the old Dillmann grammar.

5/ “I have already spent more than 60 days waking up eating the same repetitive meals…going to the doctor and that the only thing they tell you is to drink more water and the worst thing is that it seems like the water is what makes people sick here…” From 12-year-old Ender, detained 60+ days
Page 1 of a child’s handwritten letter, written in Spanish in a cursive script. Translation: “Hello I am Ender and I am 12 years old, I have been at this center  for 2 months. I arrived here for an immigration appointment and I don’t think they should grab immigrants who are innocent, like instead of grabbing criminals because I mean they prefer to lock up children than look for people who really shouldn’t be in the U.S. They told me I could only be here 21 days but I have already spent more than 60 days waking up eating the same repetitive meals, going outside and that the majority of guards never pay attention to people, eating dinner  always the same as the day before, seeing people cry every day for the same reasons, trying to sleep in that horrible uncomfortable bed, going to the doctor and that the only thing they tell you is to drink more water and the worst thing is that it seems like the water is what makes people sick here…”Page 2 of a child’s handwritten letter, written in Spanish in a cursive script. Translation: “…going to wait for the bad answers from the judges, hearing the bad news from people who no longer have hope, having to share a room with minimum 3 families, and all that so they send us back to our countries.” Below the text is a drawing in pen of three women, titled “My family” and labeled with “Mama,” “Sister,” and “me” in Spanish.

Pretty sure this stamp seal (𐩺𐩢𐩺𐩥) from Yeḥa (Tigray) shows an early Sabaic and Geʿez form of the corresponding non-theophoric Arabic name Yaḥyā (يحيى) attested in Safaitic as yḥy(y). The Sabaic/Geʿez is yḥyw with the y- being the imperfect prefix of ḥyw (life). The name would be "Yiḥyaw/Yəḥyaw."
Meant to be read left-right since that's the sequence of the sealed letters.

No expertise in linguistics so might be a dumb take but the cognates for river animals between agaw and PEC really lend itself to the idea that there existed some proto-language spoken along a river. Really wish linguists weren't so allergic to archaeology and genetics to see the connections here.

🗿NABATAEAN NEWS🗿 Recently (2024), Laïla Nehmé published four #Nabataean texts from a burial site in north-western Saudi Arabia. Three are very fragmentary, but the fourth is the longest Nabataean text on stone found so far! Two things that stood out to me: 1/6
Photograph of a light grey rock fragment inscribed with 22 lines of Nabataean script.

Oh hello. Let me introduce you to Mitri, an Egyptian scribe who lived 4,300 years ago. He’s most famous now because of his extraordinary statue with its strikingly realistic, piercing eyes. They’re lined with copper & the iris is rock crystal. A truly remarkable artwork. 🏛️📷Egyptian Museum Cairo
