#onmyturntable Marconi Union - Signals (2022). Super cool double crystal clear discs, with a bunch of great atmospheric post-rock tracks. My first Marconi album, and based on this, I'll definitely be looking for more. #vinylsky
Signals (2022) by Marconi Union on the Tech 12.

Crystal clear discs like these are always a little tricky to get the needle in the right place, since it's hard to see where the edge of the disc is. It's a bit easier to aim for the run-in if you look edge-on with the disc.

PSA: Listen to your body.
Title: Listen To Your Body

First panel, figure has its hand to its ear, saying "uh huh".

Second panel, figure is somewhat leaned over, saying "ok".

Third panel, same leaned-over figure is saying "got it".

Fouth panel, figure now upright, pointing to itself, saying "it just wants more cheese".

#onmyturntable The Dead Milkmen - Big Lizard In My Backyard (2014 reissue). Classic debut album, with the awesome "Bitchin' Camaro". Spent hours listening to this in my youth, super stoked to get hold of this cool reissue. Still even remember most of the lyrics. ❤️❤️ #vinylsky
Big Lizard In My Backyard by The Dead Milkmen (2014 reissue) on the Tech 12. Disc is a super cool transparent green.

First side is labeled "Front Yard", and second side is of course "Back Yard". Love it when bands are playful with their packaging.

#onmyturntable Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery (1973). It's a gloomy day here in the PNW, seems ideal to get my prog on. It took me a long time to get the pun from "Karn Evil 9". #vinylsky
Brain Salad Surgery (1973) by Emerson, Lake & Palmer on the Tech 12. Some iconic artwork by H. R. Giger, with his signature biological-meets-mechanical skulls. The jacket slits down the middle and the sides fold open.

This is a release from New Zealand. It's a cutout too, so perhaps didn't sell so well there? The inside of the foldout part with some less-disturbing H. R. Giger artwork, of a feminine-looking face with eyes closed. The poster with liner notes and the inner sleeve are peeking out to the right of the inner art panel. The liner notes poster, folded out. Lyrics on the top three panels, around circular holes which mirror the circle on the front on the jacket. Portraits of the boys on the bottom three panels, Keith Emerson on the left, Greg Lake in the middle, and Carl Palmer on the right. The liner notes, folded in half. The skull art from the jacket is on each panel, and the circular hole in each shows the eyes and nose of each of the band members from the unfolded poster.

#onmyturntable Klaus Schulze - Irrlicht (1976 reissue). Schulze's solo debut, originally released in 1972. The title translates as "will-o'-the-wisp", which was apparently the album's title in English-speaking countries. This is a French pressing, so keeps the original German name. #vinylsky
Irrlicht (1976 reissue) by Klaus Schulze on the Tech 12. The album has the subtitle "Quadrophonische Symphonie für Orchester und E-Maschinen", or "quadrophonic symphony for orchestra and electronic machines". It's a bit of a misnomer, because the instrumentation was all organ.

Schulze said the contents were closest to musique concréte. The music is largely layered organ drones. It's definitely in no hurry to get anywhere, and may never actually do so, but it's the start of Schulze's musical journey.

#onmyturntable Thievery Corporation - Radio Retaliation (2025 Black Friday RSD reissue). Double LPs in a pretty green, with a huge foldout poster/liner note/collage thing. And of course it's Thievery Corp, so the grooves are bumpin'. #vinylsky
Radio Retaliation (2025 Black Friday RSD reissue) by Thievery Corporation on the Tech 12.The liner notes, apparently. Six LP-sized panels of lyrics, images, quotes, and other stuff, with a green/yellow/red bullseye logo in the middle. And it's double sided; the other side is just as chaotic.

#onmyturntable Devo - Merry Something To You (2025 Black Friday RSD issue). De-evolved holiday greetings, that only Devo could create. Previously released in a Mutato Muzika collection in 2010, now on 12" vinyl in all its bizarre glory. #vinylsky
Merry Something To You (2025 Black Friday RSD issue) by Devo on the Tech 12. This is a picture disc, which is a bit hard to decipher with the disc spinning at 45 rpm. It comes in a clear vinyl sleeve with a hype sticker. It's hard to see the picture with the disc spinning on the turntable, so here is a still shot. This is side 1, with a cyclopean Santa Claus in red, with some sort of ray coming out of his eye, perhaps blasting a blob creature.

This side has the regular "Merry Something To You" and the instrumental version.A still shot of side 2, with the same image as side 1, but mirrored left-to-right, and in green.

This side has the E-Z listening version "with Nutra", whatever that may be, and the reversed version.

#onmyturntable Nine Inch Nails - Tron Ares Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (2025). A properly menacing NIN album, with some nice quiet moments. "Who Wants To Live Forever" with guest vox by Judeline is a highlight. Word is the movie stinks, but it isn't because of the music. #vinylsky
Tron Ares Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (2025) by Nine Inch Nails on the Tech 12. There were two different pressings in the US, the red jacket with black vinyl, and the white jacket with white vinyl. This is the black vinyl.

The discs are dead quiet, with absolutely no surface noise. Even the runouts are almost completely quiet. This is a really nicely produced album.

Random record find: a lyric contest, found on the inner sleeve of a record released in 1959. #vinylsky
Write-a-long with America's top composers! Capitol's "Songs Without Words" contest! Contestants would buy the record (*of course* there's an additional purchase) which had 10 tracks without lyrics, and would submit their lyrics on the tiny entry forms on the other side of the sleeve.

"Ten winners will each be paid $500.00 advance against royalties for publication rights to their prize-winning lyrics, and will receive a contact calling for additional lyricist's royalties as earned." At least record companies are consistent, doing the same shady contract scammery they were doing sixty-odd years ago.

Post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or Alice In Chains.
Lifeforms by Future Sound Of London. The album was originally released in 1994, and was a critical and popular success, entering the British dance chart at #1, and the albums chart at #6. It also spawned two hit singles, "Cascade" and the title track "Lifeforms".

This particular pressing was made in 2018, but I can't hold that against it.
