looking back, this was the exact same thing he did to legitimize Orange Cassidy. PAC sold the absurd, the character. Made you believe. PAC was all of professional wrestling distilled into one man.

Emi Sakura's post about PAC is breaking my heart

The first time I spoke with him was in Ireland in 2018. When you're living in an English-speaking country, Japanese suddenly reaches your ears in a startling way. Our conversations always started with his "Otsukaresamade-su." Backstage, I wouldn't sense his presence at all, but then those words would arrive right by my ear like the wind. And so I'd search for him. There's no English phrase that translates it just right—its meaning encompasses hello, long time no see, glad to see you, good work, goodbye, good night, see you later, and all sorts of other things rolled into one. I think it's the kind of greeting that comes from the way he's confronted pro wrestling in Japan. It's time. As always, I grab my bag and climb into the car. I can't believe the show goes on. Today and from here on out, forever, I know I'll keep straining to listen. Thank you, PAC.

Someone was talking about PAC being stoic at meet & greets on Twitter, so it reminded me of this anecdote.

Small child in red flannel and blue jeans standing next to PAC with long hair, wearing black AEW hoodie and shorts. Both are wearing facemasks.

Nolie met PAC at a Dynamite, when AEW was still doing preshow meet and greets.

They both looked each other up and down. Then PAC stoically says “How is your day, little child?”.

When it was picture time, he plainly said “Stand with me in battle” to Nolie.

It was perfect.

When Pac interviewed on the Art of Wrestling podcast back in 2012, I was floored by how candid a man with such obvious talent was about his struggles with self-esteem. In recent years he projected such confidence in his performances & I hope he developed an understanding of how beloved he truly was.
