I find the Savannah Bananas fun and more power to them for doing the schedule announcement as an event. But calling it a DRAFT, as if teams are selecting cities, rather than a REVEAL is just weird, even for Banana Ball.

It COULD work and I realize a lot of Dodgers hitters have been struggling. But hitting Kyle Tucker cleanup at home, where he’s struggled all year, against a LHP feels like managerial malpractice. Or else you’re saying your 5-9 hitters really suck.

I wonder if teams would have better playoff success if they managed more like the regular season. I know you don’t want a game to get out of hand, but if you pull your ace starter in the 3rd or 4th, you’re committing to using your 6th, 7th, or 8th best guy out of the bullpen and that’s risky too.

The White Sox and Guardians play today to decide who advances to the AL Championship. I’ve been a baseball fan for 50 years and don’t think I’ve ever cared less about a playoff elimination game. I don’t even know what time the game is. This feels like one of those early December bowl games.

It’s less than useless that the MLB app/website chooses to show post season averages in their live box scores. Can you imagine them showing “previous week” during the regular season? Either show regular season stats, combine playoffs into those, or don’t show anything at all.
Screen capture of MLB app’s box score of Atlanta in today’s game showing AVG and OBP.

I have not followed Atlanta closely, but it’s mind boggling that they are a playoff team and have a cleanup hitter in Albies who is a below average hitter. And it’s not just like he had a bad year; he’s been so-so for three seasons in a row.

No one would ever honored someone by naming someone after them with an absurd spelling, would they? I would not be happy if someone named a kid Aydehm after me. But you have a point.

We don’t talk nearly enough about how in his 30s, Mookie Betts switched from being a career OF to an everyday SS (not just a fill in) and how ridiculous that is. Can’t remember anyone doing that in my lifetime. Players move FROM SS to OF not vice versa.

I get bring Mason Miller is for two innings and it might be the right move, but it backfired. Walked the bases loaded; that’s all on him.

He didn’t. It’s a manager being too cute in the playoffs.

What you’d really want is to start Sale today and have him available for 2-3 innings in game 5 on 3 days rest. Maybe even as the starter. They threw that out the window by using him with a 4-run lead.

Adam Stein @adamstein.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
With Sale not available for game 1 or Game 2 this is already back firing. Yes, he’s only going to start one game in the series and they SAY he can start game 3 and relieve in game 5. But not being avaialable today on two days rest after 4 outs suggests that isn’t true.

It will probably work fine because Atlanta has a 4-run lead just four outd to go. But using Sale here is stupid and too cute whether for one out of 4. They push him back a couple days for the NLDS and they have a closer.

The major downside of the analytics era is teams finding ways to exploit the rules and take advantage of strategies that are unaesthetic. Allowing a team to roster 10 relief pitchers just asks for something like this.

Maybe you have more updated data but the Astros with Blubaugh is the only one I see with a couple TBA. 5 teams going with starters though Tolle seems like a curious choice. The reality is unless you have an elite #1 starter available, a bullpen game might be the best strategy.

I knew the turn around was huge but to see the data is stunning. 8/1/25 -> 4/27/26: 207/263/303, 43% BELOW average as a hitter, second worst among qualified hitters for 3 months 4/28/26 -> 9/27/26: 288/386/624, literally the best hitter in baseball for five months #MVPete

Colson Montgomery has struck out 222 times this season. The record is 223. There are 4 games left. Why aren’t people talking about this? Schwarber could break the record too, though technically it wouldn’t be the record anymore.

When did Zoom meetings become airports? Everyone feels the need to announce their departure. We get it, you’re double booked or something came up. In person you’d quietly exit out the back. It’s OK to do so online.

Thousands of immigrants did the hard, dirty work of clearing rubble and toxic dust and debris from Ground Zero. Many were undocumented laborers sent to work every day with no special PPE, and got cancer as a result. Now some of those same people are living in fear of ICE. www.npr.org/2026/09/11/n...

They cleaned up ground zero. Now many are hiding from ICE
After 9/11, thousands of rescue and cleanup crews went to work at ground zero. They were exposed to toxic debris and experienced psychological trauma. Today, many say they live in fear of deportation.

I don’t mind if the item doesn’t show up until Tuesday, which I hope it does. I mind that I’m expecting it, it doesn’t show, and there’s no update. How do you not understand how long it takes to transport from point A to point B within a couple hours?

It’s really mind boggling that in 2026, we don’t have 99.9% accuracy on package delivery dates. Got a notice Friday that an order would be delivered on Saturday. Got a notice yesterday it was coming “today”. No package, tracking doesn’t show anything since EOD Friday.

I know they don’t have the authority to do it, but MLB should just fire Eddings not suspend him. Hasn’t Fernando Rodney worn his cap crooked for years? There’s not a rule against it.

Thanks for sharing. I find I’m in the same boat. I’m a WNBA fan but a decade removed from having Storm season tickets I don’t watch the games much and even having gone to a Valkyries game a few weeks ago would have trouble naming 5 players.

Buster Posey announcing that Vitello will return as manager with SIX WEEKS left in the season is reason to fire both of them. Sorry Giants fans, there’s always 2028 and a chance that the 2027 season is so short you don’t miss it.

I wonder if competing with AirBnB and other short-term rentals that usually are NOT cancelable except right after you book, has lowered the bar for hotel lodging, allowing them to remove flexibility by default. Anyone else seeing this or know why it happened?

Adam Stein @adamstein.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
This isn’t even a one off, seeing it on major chains like Radisson and Marriott and many listings on Expedia. To some degree it’s marketing — rooms are now $30 MORE if you want the option to cancel rather than $30 less if you’ll guarantee your stay, but it feels way more widespread.

Adam Stein @adamstein.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
And occasionally you’d see a special DEAL to save if you book a non-cancelable room well in advance. But now it seems the default listing is a reservation that can’t be cancelled and the option to cancel is an à la carte feature like parking, late checkout, or breakfast.

As we’ve been traveling a lot, I’ve noticed a curious trend with hotels. It used to be that US lodging reservations were universally cancelable, generally until the day before arrival and often on the day of. Some BnBs and boutique hotels would have strict policies because they need to be full.

I’m staying in a place that has Spectrum for internet. Spectrum has an outage locally that started 7 hours ago and they don’t expect to be fixed for another 5 hours. That puts them below 99.9% annual uptime, which isn’t that great, just from today’s outage. That’s really unacceptable.

It's essentially the equivalent of having annual HR totals of 20, 19, 16, 15, 32, 13. Some guys have done that but at least we KNOW the HR actually cleared the fence. Seems almost impossible that he suddenly got better defensively and lost it again.

Defensive metrics are weird and possibly broken. Someone mentioned Trea Turner had become a bad SS, so I looked into the data. Whether you check @fangraphs.com or @baseball-reference.com , his defense has been on a steady decline with a noticeable drop in 2023. But last year he was good.

Maybe this is running bit, but while Devers has bounced back from a slow start, he’s well below his 2021-2025 Red Sox level of hitting. He’s not been good with the Giants. At best you claim he’s not been bad, ignoring the contract.

Every year there’s a player traded at the deadline who’s had 4 good months, maybe a near all-star, who proceeds to be terrible with his new team. Arraez has a good chance to be that guy, returning to 2024-25 levels, so he won’t return nearly as much as Giants fans and Posey expect.

In California, there's a large set of businesses that run smog tests. Their rates are all over the place and weirdly most business have a posted rate but with a coupon or if you reach out on Yelp!, they knock the price down from say $90 to $50. It's required every two years even for newer cars.

Smog/emissions tests in California are so weird. In Washington state, the testing was done by the DMV though they contracted the station operation to a third party. There was a nominal fee of about $30. YIL, they got rid of the program 6 years ago and emissions tests are not required.
