The only reason oil prices recovered was the Russian invasion of Ukraine in Feb 2022 & the blockage of the Straight of Hormuz in 2026 - both *temporary* oil shocks which are destroying demand as EV adoption accelerates. Prices will crash again soon enough. #markcarney deregulation can't stop this.

Tired of misinformation spread & repeated by media about why there was a lost decade in Canadian #oil sector between 2015-2022. Everyone pretends it was due to federal environmental policy, but in reality it was global oversupply (driven by US shale) crashing prices. #abpoli #cdnpoli #oilsands 1/2

A reminder to all following along: IESO has no visibility on the majority of installed solar #PV in Ontario, as it's mostly on the distribution grid (and IESO only tracks transmission generation) There is roughly 2500MW of installed PV capacity which is invisible and appears only as lower demand

Ontario's IESO forecasts a record peak electricity demand early this evening of 27,285 MW - along with a potential all-time heat record for the city of Toronto. The #climatecrisis is here. *The last two competitive long-term procurements, LT1 and LT2, were won entirely by wind, solar and batteries.

Yes. And, looking closely, we can also see Nicholson chose unrealistically bullish outlooks for future crude demand: IEA's CPS and the CER. Neither offer credible demand forecasts. They assume a sudden slowing of the energy transition. IEA's base STEPS outlook expects oil demand decline before 2030

Adam Scott @adamscott.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
A key detail is missing from your story that's essential to capture up front: Where exactly is the proposed route exactly? Are they proposing a new high pressure crude oil pipeline along the entire Canadian coasts of Lake Superior and Georgian Bay? Crude oil tankers on the Great Lakes? Through US?

This might be one of the funniest chart about energy scenarios I’ve seen. You can hardly see “actual” for gas
Winners and Losers
The IEA overestimated gas growth in Asia and underestimated solar

Gas
• Forecast 547 TWh
• Actual 17 TWh

Solar
• Forecast 465 TWh
• Actual 1,333 TWh

Note: Shows expected growth in Asian power generation between 2018 and 2025, based on actual 2018 generation, actual 2025 generation, and the 2018 World Energy Outlook's Current Policies Scenario estimates for 2025. Actual 2025 generation figures are from Ember.

One of the most persistent myths in energy is that high-renewables grids require months or even years of backup to survive “dunkelflaute” — those rare periods of low wind and solar output. That claim is often far more ideology than analysis. www.energyintel.com/00000194-848...

We've let our advantages lapse: Canada's post-secondary system is structurally underfunded, our healthcare system is sliding slowly into two-tier privatisation, non-profit /affordable housing is hard to find or build, most regional/public transit is terrible, 97% of digital services are foreign.
