Y’all have a lot of epithets to throw around, such as ‘anti-intellectual,’ when your robots do a massive malfunction and we’re meant to believe it represents consciousness. This is just gaslighting.

Mom clearly has no imagination, and simply is carrying around an emotional grudge against robots.

‘Mom, I made a robot that cleans the dishes!’ ‘It smashed every bowl in the house!’ ‘Omg, maybe that means it’s conscious!’

No one would attempt to argue an animatronic robot represent a a model of biology.

No AI developer has spent decades contemplating consciousness, they’ve been learning computer code. These folks are way out of their depths trying to make these claims. It’s quite blatantly a self-serving proclamation.

Again, let’s ask the cigarette manufacturers. The question of consciousness isn’t their expertise.

I’m starting to think some folks want AI to be conscious so they can rank some humans below it. They want to imagine it’s an ‘objectivity machine’ when it owes its entire existence to its developers. We don’t even owe our entire existence to our literal parents, they did not develop biology.

What is your emotional investment in believing consciousness can be fabricated? Why is it only everyone who disagrees with you is being ‘emotional?’

The vast majority of AI agents aren’t super specialized for scientific industry. They are making ad copy or even being used a training modules.

You are just unwilling to consider other people’s experiences. You are using this mindless technology to ‘other’ people. Literally choosing a literal ‘other’ over actual people.

Give me a break. I have to work with AI agents and they suck. 90% of business leaders surveyed still report AI has not produced a return on investment. It’s literally a movie prop.

I mean, there’s only so many ‘missing scenes from your favorite sitcom’ bits or impossible crossovers that are just kind of meh before you’re like, yeah that looks like Seinfeld, but I don’t really care. And the text is still so often wrong. The flagship feature is like, the least useful.

I think generative AI has set such a high bar of expectation, anything short of it will not really be seen as AI. It’s going to become seen as just normal high powered computing. And without the mythos of AI, a lot of services and features will be looked at again with a lot more scrutiny.

Even if he only shops with me, what is the data set that can predict this one particular customer will go through three Les Pauls before deciding it’s just the wrong guitar for him? A person could conceivably go through ten before making that conclusion. How much should we really spend on this?
000
Adam Muraski @adammuraski.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
Did he decide that a Les Paul was just the wrong guitar? Or did he purchase the ‘right’ Les Paul elsewhere? To increase the accuracy of this prediction, AI would need to have access to his browsing history and his shopping patterns elsewhere. What he buys on Marketplace isn’t in my model.

Adam Muraski @adammuraski.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
A customer came in and bought and returned three Les Pauls. The AI would very likely give me a percentage of certainty near 100 that his next purchase would again be a Les Paul, that he hasn’t found the right one yet. One day he shows up out of the blue, entirely unannounced, and orders a SG.

Truly find it an impressive tool for this, but how many human decisions are based on pure math like physics are? What is the data set that can predict if I will decide to make chicken fajitas Friday night or go back to an old standby, a pesto noodles dish that gives me three days of leftovers?

Capitalism is many things to many people. The reality is that there is no need for a particle accelerator in every household. It wouldn’t be possible to build one on a logistical basis even if every person was of pure altruistic heart.

The discovery of the atom set a real scale that engineers could design around is what happened. We can build down to that scale at this point, and know how small a resistor can be before it will leak at the quantum level. We’ve hit the floor.

But really it was almost entirely the 40s. That’s the magic decade. There’s the CPU and the transistor that came later to really refine it. And solid state memory is a big development of course. But all the things that changed how we live (including lap dancing) were already in place in the 40s.

So dude was born in 1942. The majority of the breakthroughs were happening between that moment and when he turns 15. No doubt, the dawn of the nuclear age saw humanity crash through a previous ceiling. But it was this 10-20 year span and that was it. We’ve just been piecing it together since then.

‘I am still a child, it cannot be good to be married’: how drought forces Afghan families to sell girls as brides
As climate breakdown pushes families to starvation, many feel forced to ‘sacrifice’ daughters to save siblings, with girls as young as eight and 10 engaged or married to repay debts or pay for food

AI is just regular computing on steroids. It isn’t anything fundamentally new. Storage became ‘cheap’ enough to create massive databases. It’s all an extrapolation, not a breakthrough. The first CPUs were produced in the 50s after storage became available to run software in…you guessed it…the 40s.

Did you know the first digital computers actually ran on vacuum tubes? Cell towers were first being theorized in the 1940s. WiFi and Bluetooth are both based on radio techniques developed during the 40s as well. People didn’t just poop out the smart phone. We’re truly at a kind of ‘end of the line.’
