WePlanet Poland's @adamblazowski.bsky.social is quoted in this article defending nuclear energy amid Europe's heatwaves. He says recent disruptions to nuclear energy production “call for an upgrade in Europe’s nuclear preparedness for extreme climate events..." shorturl.at/KCNbD

What the heat waves in Europe tell us about the reliability of nuclear power
In France and Switzerland, nuclear plants went offline, while in Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria they shut down or reduced output

Antinuclear voices are raising alarm each time there is anything happening anywhere near an NPP. But facts are simple: Ukrainian NPPs are the ONLY power plants NOT attcked by Russia. If it wasn't for nuclear power, Ukraine would alread have had blackouts and be without power in winter.

Reprocessing of fuel is the best example of zero waste circular economy. I think we should all strive to close the nuclear cycle and burn even the nasty waste in fast reactors, and breed new fuel in breeder reactors instead of extracting all the fuel from the environment.

1/n You've probably heard already about (some) French reactors coasting down due to not wanting to overheat rivers. Antinuclear voices love to amplify that event every year, despite the fact that it is a temporary measure and only affects 5% of French capacity, with exports still going strong.

A majority of Aussies support nuclear energy! Polling commissioned by WePlanet Australia last month shows that a majority of Australians support developing nuclear energy in Australia. Nuclear energy provides 24/7 clean, reliable, and affordable energy independent of the weather or season.

Being part of those events is very personal to me. Belgium was poised on self destruction of its low carbon electricity generation. Today this course is reversed and although the damage was done, worse case scenario might be averted. And people who caused it are today proud to have stopped it! ;)

German Left: "We don't need nuclear power". Polish Left: "One plant is not enough. We need 8, and at least 2 should be in my constituency".

Should we be fishing for krill in the Antarctic? This week @marklynas.bsky.social connects via satellite with three researchers aboard a @seashepherdglobal.bsky.social vessel in the Southern Ocean — one of the most remote and important whale feeding grounds on Earth. 🎙️Ep available now: link below.

Greenpeace still managed to disrupt nuclear summit in Paris yesterday. Stay classy Greenpeace, leave nuclear power alone.

This has kind of aged well, but also has different context today.

While ignoring nuclear power, the EU has traded russian energy blackmail (Nord Stream) for a Qatari one. Energy security is important, but it was criminally ignored in recent times. I'm worried that Europe will learn this all over again, the hard way.

Swedish Energy Minister is furious with Germany. Lack of nuclear is increasing energy prices in other countries today. Problem is, this system is working as intended. This is how @eucomission.bsky.social intended it to work for years. Its not a bug, its a feature. Bad policy, expected outcomes.
