I don't dislike this, but given Murray's reluctance to suit up in the past, I'm pretty curious how much money they had to offer him to do it. Hopefully he was offering a special that week on proton charging and storage of the beast

Some of you may not know that years ago, I wrote a raunchy thriller/comedy as a celebration of the Halloween season. One reader called it "a great short story, that for its full impact needs to be read during the last week of October." It's $0.99 on Kindle. a.co/d/0g4AKZ7Y

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

A 3D mockup of a book, "The Light of Unfamiliar Stars" by Andrew Bugenis. A banner along the top prompts, "Follow now," with the Kickstarter logo. The fact that the color scheme of the book cover more or less matches Kickstarter's branding is entirely coincidental, I assure you.

I don’t want to minimize my generation’s challenges with inflation… but I also suspect a lot of us (including myself) in our forties are looking at prices and thinking, “That cost so much less when I was a teenager, only three or four years ago”

Not at all familiar with either franchise so I missed that! The Dukhat/Dukat would give me pause, you're right, but I'd be willing to be that the "L__a" name construction is so common for good-looking ladies in these sorts of projects that I would simply grunt and move on.

I think "grain of salt" would be for if the story turns out to be false, I think you're more saying you won't count your chickens before they hatch. Maybe it could be both. Salty chickens.

The prospect of superintelligence that could kill us demands a superstupidity that can save us. I call upon the government to fund a crusade of holy fools, not the most wise or capable but always pure of heart, to wage this war. The era of the affable moron is at hand.

I think young fantasy / sci-fi writers in particular have a weakness for imagining a character in their heads and telling you every detail about them like filling out a profile, and Scalzi is right to avoid that. One or two telling details is good enough, the reader's gonna imagine whatever anyway.

A book cover. The title, "The Light of Unfamiliar Stars" stands in bold silver over a space tableau of gray, green and black. A spaceship in the foreground runs away from a mysterious crystalline structure shrouded in mist. The author's name, Andrew Bugenis, sits at the bottom.

You see them only in a moment of humiliation, when they can't do anything about it, thus making you imagine the aftermath; their son's face unlocks your imagination. They don't *have* to scream and yell to put fear in you, same principle as how the quiet Mafia boss is scarier than his big loud thug.
