Haven't listed to Grand Prix in ages. Good excuse to give it a spin again. Great album. (They all are, but that one is most overdue another airing).

It seems hopeful at least that the new prime minister does not have to be persuaded of the value of the arts and culture.

Back in the day I had a phase of getting into a bunch of Blue Note and Atlantic compilations, and Prestige. Absolute goldmine for sample sources.

We’re sourcing our reshuffle news from an alternate timeline of the 1980s…
To summarise yesterday evening, Mr Benn is out of the Cabinet, Mr Healey has returned to the Cabinet and Mr Kinnock has joined the Cabinet for the first time.

Quoted as an image because it’s a friend’s joke from Facebook and I can’t take credit for it.

There is a reasonable chunk of work going on to make more of its musical roots and history - not just metalheads (though music-heads) – Birmingham Music Archive, making it more visible in the city visitor strategy, and the like. Takes a while for the perception to take root more widely, I guess.

Took a bit of digging. Wedged in between a Blue Note compilation from DJing days and a rather battered, vintage copy of Bridge Over Troubled Water. Has been a while since I've been through the vinyl. Clearly the filing needs some work.

Lukather also cited Steely Dan as an influence (though not sure if directly on 'Rosanna' itself).

Also lived on, highly regarded just below the surface in pockets - e.g. Lukather/Toto very big in guitar/muso-land ('Rosanna' often features in 'best guitar solo' type lists). Porcaro, too, as a drummer too. But not too much of a distance to jump into wider attention.

Plus, I assume, saves time at the front end in terms of 'cashing up'. It's been a good while for me but back when I was in the service industry a big chunk of time involved actual counting (especially checking weekly bankings). Presumably more straightforward if mostly card payments.
