Festival of Commoning in Stroud this Friday/Saturday www.festivalofcommoning.org/line-up - lots of speakers and wandering the town to visit the many successful community projects. I’m going and assume tickets still available.

Individualism held within digital tools as method to break community as human structure that competes with organisational control

“For Segato, the target in this informalized warfare is not the defeat of a political entity, i.e., the nation, rather it is a form of excessive cruelty that pillages all vestiges of life.” The idea that it is destruction of social connection, reciprocity and kindness that is the core.

Physical control (or lack of) as terrorist behaviours is something I have wondered about. Learning yoga as action to explicitly control/shift body movement.

Drafting Stroud civic assembly questions about food affordability Big question frames boundaries Little questions are to provide accessibility from differing living experience perspectives
Big question about food and affordability. Little questions from perspective of people in existing crisis or approaching crisis and organisations managing processes

Vocation-only universities make sense if task and process are only what you are willing people to interact with. Meta-skills like critical thinking are a cognitive weight to be removed.
110
Alastair Somerville @acuity.design · 29/09/2026
Critical thinking only matters in society that values individual criticism. AI makes sense if you don’t value people or criticism.

Alastair Somerville @acuity.design · 29/09/2026
Doesn’t this just return many people to the feudal where daily life didn’t change much for centuries, where critical thinking wasn’t needed to labour in a field and where knowledge was held by with a fraction of it repeatedly announced by a small elite.

Always imagined the fear that robbers might pop into the gun shop to ask to borrow a shotgun, pop out, sound of alarms, very rushed return of gun and screeching tyre noise.

Obviously I do get the concern www.theguardian.com/artanddesign... but also reminded of complaints I heard years ago about a sporting gun shop opening next to post office and risk of armed robberies. Regulations and safety checks can work.

People who build AI models confusing the models made by scientists as science. But it’s the Qualia and Durée of people living and interacting over years, over generations, across the planet which is science. Some people see the crescent, some people see the whole of the moon.

Hadn’t attended exhibition of service/tech providers to blind & visually impaired people for years. Not much changed: still group of companies selling wildly overpriced tech, near zero knowledge among older people of how much smartphones can do for free and deep confusion about govt care providers

Argued about #LongTermism and the value of human life now or at some time in distant future. The death of millions now so billions live in future. It’s all wrong as human value (like rights) doesn’t change, money does. Money value is a useless measure for this.
