Dead serious about crushing the Capitalist Patriarchy. Likes to embroider The Thick of It quotes. I listen to David Bowie instead of eating my feelings. Renegade.

SACRILEGE! That's quite bizarre, banned for verbal depictions of nudity. I would have guessed No Friend To This House for the infanticide 🤷‍♀️

Current spooky read 'From the Depths - and Other Strange Tales From the Sea' edited by Mike Ashley. Some of these proper shit me up #Booksky
A close-up photograph of the paperback From the Depths and Other Strange Tales of the Sea, edited by Mike Ashley, resting on someone’s lap. The dark grey cover features a striking blue illustration of a large anchor sinking beneath swirling, turbulent water, with a curling wave above. White text gives the title and editor, while the bottom reads “British Library Tales of the Weird.”A photograph of the back cover of From the Depths and Other Strange Tales of the Sea. The dark grey cover contains white and blue text describing the anthology: eerie maritime stories involving supernatural encounters, a nightmare from the depths, a German U-boat commander receiving an impossible Morse Code transmission, and a ship trapped in the Sargasso Sea. It also includes a short biography of editor Mike Ashley, the £10.99 price, British Library publishing details, and a barcode at the bottom.

Well I absolutely inhaled Nikita Gill's Hekate in about 18 hours. Enjoyed it immensely, what a thoroughly wonderful book. Next up: The King In Yellow by Robert W. Chambers! #Booksky

I've owned Nikita Gill's Hekate for about a year and have only just got round to reading it and I'm SO GLAD I corrected this error. It's phenomenal. (Does anyone know why she deleted her Bluesky account? I really enjoyed following her 😔) #Booksky

Bought The Knave and the Moon by Rachel Gillig, so am re-listening to The Knight and the Moth to refresh my memory of it before starting the sequel. I loved this book so much when I first read it. Such a unique premise and brilliant protagonist in Sybil. Lush and gothic. #booksky

I've just watched an interview video of John Oliver and at the end he plugged his new series of Last Week Tonight, then asked 'Can I plug other people's things?' when he was told yes he told everyone to go read Patrick Radden Keefe's 'Say Nothing'. THAT WAS MY FAVOURITE BOOK OF LAST YEAR!

N.K. Jemisin is the first author to win the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 3 consecutive yrs for her Broken Earth series & first to win for all 3 novels in a trilogy. Recipient MacArthur Genius Grant, 2020. She was born #OTD in 1972. Happy Birthday @nkjemisin.bsky.social 🎈 #SciFi #Fantasy #BookSky
A montage portrait of science fiction author N.K. Jemisin. On the left, she appears in a close-up photo with long, dark braided hair, wearing earrings, a delicate necklace with a pendant, a deep maroon sweater, and a shimmering green scarf draped around her neck. She has a calm, confident expression and gazes directly at the camera against a softly blurred dark background. To the right are three stacked book covers of her works. Top: The Fifth Season (The Broken Earth trilogy), with a dark, textured design and metallic title. Middle: The Obelisk Gate, featuring an intricate, glowing red-and-purple circular mandala-like emblem. Bottom: The Stone Sky, showing a dramatic stormy sky with a massive floating obelisk.

The overall composition highlights the author alongside prominent covers from her award-winning Broken Earth series.

Years ago when I was working on the dementia ward I made a real connection with a patient and her husband who happened to be a poet. He told me he was writing a book of poetry about his wife and Alzheimer's and that he'd included a poem about me in it. Yesterday I found the book and the poem.
Photograph of a poem from a poetry book. Text reads:
''I don't recognise her anymore
I want to remember her
the way she was
Best not to meet anymore'
say friends and relations
about you
my love

But a nurse -
A young perky woman with boyish hair
tells me again and again
what you are like
what you were like
before you became ill
long before she was even born
when you were a young perky woman with boyish hair
yourself

She recognises you
and you her'

Either 'Mists of Avalon' by Marrion Zimmer Bradley (yes. I know. She's terrible. I didn't know in my teens.) or 'The Amber Spyglass' by Philip Pullman. The latter had me crying my eyes out in GCSE English classes when I was meant to be reading Persuasion by Austen

'In the letter, the group of 133 women said they faced a "crisis" and argued their "safety, security and freedoms will be under threat". "Life as we know it will be destroyed," they said. "We will not feel safe walking our streets. We are already living in fear."' Fucking ridiculous bigots.

Just finished re-reading the glorious @nataliehaynes.bsky.social's Pandora's Jar - and am about to start a re-read of Divine Might - about Greek Goddess My question is - If the Furies can be interpreted as Goddesses then why can't the Moirai? Or was that just going to make the book too long?

Acton Bell @actionbell.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Is there an overlap with some of the female "monsters" you covered in Divine Might & Pandora's Jar? I don't even necessarily mean Medusa but I'd put The Furies into the monster category maybe. Very looking forward to seeing list of who/what you've covered and how you've subjectively classified them
