Texas’ maternal health report was set to release on Sept. 1. Instead, the state is delaying the release — until after midterm elections. Delaying our access to information — which includes the consequences of Texas’ abortion ban — puts pregnant people at risk and leaves voters in the dark.

Texas' delay of maternal death report hurts women, lawmakers say
The highly anticipated report, which includes deaths that occurred after Texas banned abortions, has recommendations on how to reduce pregnancy risks.

Ectopic pregnancy deaths have surged since Roe v. Wade was overturned. In Texas, where abortion is banned, it can be a struggle to receive the proper care to treat ectopic pregnancy. Our state is punishing pregnant people — while also delaying the release of a maternal mortality report.

Ectopic Pregnancy Deaths Have Nearly Doubled. It's Worse in States With Abortion Bans.
With prompt and appropriate medical care, experts say, people shouldn't die from an ectopic pregnancy. Women in Texas and Oklahoma have sued over delays in care, which, coupled with our new analysis, raises questions about the role of abortion bans.
