I'll happily listen to Bob Costas talk about baseball (or pretty much any subject) any day of the week and twice on Sundays. ... he had the greatest fastball in broadcast history and hasn't lost much of that brilliance (in my opinion).

It was the great Frank Deford who once described tennis as being boxing without blood. And this one really did become a heavyweight fight across four hours and 28 minutes. The shame is that Ashe Stadium, as loud as it was, was maybe a quarter full by the time Shelton finished it.

It’s just two words: “Never Forget.” For a quarter of a century now, that phrase has been the mantra of the 2001 Mets who helped the city heal after 9/11.

My pal @leanderalphabet.bsky.social nails it here. It is a GAME, played on a FIELD. You wear CLEATS. It features a SCHEDULE and a SCORE. You keep track in the STANDINGS. I think NBC does a great job, and Rebecca Lowe is in the mix for best sports broadcaster, but it is time to make a few changes.

This piece from @aslipelit.bsky.social is the best thing I've read about the new season of 'Ted Lasso.' "There is a certain irony in exploring that history through this TV series, because Lasso’s own coaching career is built on precisely the kind of opportunity women have rarely received."
