I had the genuine deep honor of illustrating a fake book cover for one of my best @storylords.bsky.social tales starring my precocious tween ghost hunters The Candle Cousins for incredibly dope commissioner @weirdthey3214.bsky.social and this was the big result!

Digital illustration of a fake book cover for a story I wrote for the STORYLORDS podcast titled “The 13 Ghosts of Redmane Manor” starring The Candle Cousins, amatuer supernatural sleuths with a magical green candle that tells them a spirit nearby needs their help to pass on to the other side.

Peggy (left, blonde pigtails, braces, and overalls) holds the titular green candle aloft, shock on her face while Kris (goth, ripped shirt and pants, fishnet sleeves) stares on flabberghasted at a floating ghost kitty cat that hovers past. A dark and foreboding laboratory setting is illuminated in dark blues and spot greens from the candle.

The book so attributed to “Peggy Rickenbocker”, which is Peggy’s full name, as she wrote their adventures in-universe.

These are my four favorite Katsuya Terada Legend of Zelda pieces, for funsies. When I think of Zelda this is still what comes to mind for me, even after decades of the series solidifying its aesthetic in a whole different direction. This IS The Legend of Zelda to me.

The Legend of Zelda by Katsuya Terada. Link walks a trail through a forest, past a carved ancient column, lead on by the wingbeats of an owl more wise than it seems. I especially love the depiction of his sword wrapped and tied, hanging from his waist. Link is a poor kid foisted into a knightly adventure he can’t afford a scabbard yet.

The Legend of Zelda by Katsuya Terada. Link ascends a staircase in a dark and foreboding dungeon, his lamp held aloft as the only source of light in the dreariness. Notice that a small box and two scrolls have been stuffed discretely between stones on the landing behind him. Such a cool little touch
