I know ‘patient zero’ has now basically just entered colloquial language and it was already the title of a zombie horror movie etc. but seeing it as the title of a new Taylor Swift single still makes me cringe and will every time I hear it. that phrase has a very specific history and context!

I know, I know, "Patient Zero" is now, at this point, a common phrase. That said, it always irks me when people use it because the history behind it is so incredibly sad. Randy Shilts mistook "Patient O(ut of California) as "Patient 0," a phrase that wasn't used in epidemiology.
