As the expected Christian Nationalism EO came in, I’m seeing a bunch of “this isn’t real Christianity” noise in my mentions. Nope. Christian friends. 1/x 🧵 This is 💯 part of the history of Christianity, dating to Constantine, to the Holy Roman Empire, forced conversions, Inquisitions, +

A lot of you probably saw these words from Rebecca Solnit today, but in case you didn't, maybe you can take some inspiration from them.

“They want you to feel powerless and to surrender and to let them trample everything and you are not going to let them. You are not giving up, and neither am I. The fact that we cannot save everything does not mean we cannot save anything and everything we can save is worth saving. You may need to grieve or scream or take time off, but you have a role no matter what, and right now good friends and good principles are worth gathering in. Remember what you love. Remember what loves you. Remember in this tide of hate what love is. The pain you feel is because of what you love. The Wobblies used to say don't mourn, organize, but you can do both at once and you don't have to organize right away in this moment of furious mourning.
You can be heartbroken or furious or both at once; you can scream in your car or on a cliff; you can also get up tomorrow and water the flowerpots and call someone who's upset and check your equipment for going onward. A lot of us are going to come under direct attack, and a lot of us are going to resist by building solidarity and sanctuary. Gather up your resources, the metaphysical ones that are heart and soul and care, as well as the practical ones.
People kept the faith in the dictatorships of South America in the 1970s and 1980s, in the East Bloc countries and the USSR, women are protesting right now in Iran and people there are writing poetry. There is no alternative to persevering, and that does not require you to feel good. You can keep walking whether it's sunny or raining. Take care of yourself and remember that taking care of something else is an important part of taking care of yourself, because you are interwoven with the ten trillion things in this single garment of destiny that has been stained and torn, but is still being woven and mended and washed.”

I'd love to get some more commissions lined up for the holidays! I don't advertise this much, but I figured I'd remind everyone that I can paint in a -really- wide variety of styles and media. My business e-mail is on my comms page below 😊 thehamofficial.com#commissions #art #commissionsopen

A collection of hand painted acrylic art cards on a wooden backdrop. There is a: snow leopard, overgrown wooden door in a brick wall, raspberyr macrons with raspberries on it, a flowery wedding cake, a tiger swatting a butterfly, a blue geode, an iceberg against a pink sunset with a moon, a fall harvest with corn, apples, pumpkins, squash & leaves, and a little red and blue frog on a big leaf.

three digititally painted landscape studies. Upper left is some stone columns overgrown with greenery on a misty day, upper right is a dirt path alonga crooked old fence by a farm field. There are trees & a farmhouse in the distance, with a big cloudy blue sky and distant mountain. The bottom painting is a field with a wire fence at golden hour, the treeline is shown in the distance and the sky looks quite clear.

watercolor & gouache painting of a cartoonish yellow snail frowning and looking off to the right. The snail is perched atop a leafy branch with some small pink flowerbuds next to it

illustration of an angry hairy rainbow with sharp teeth and crazed eyes, and pink heart cheeks, peeing violently from its clouds so the water sprays up everywhere against a soft pink purple blue and yellow background

Season 3 of Legend of Vox Machina is amazing so far! The animation is phenomenal, the adaptation from podcast to TV show is great, need I mention the voice acting? My favorite parts were recognizing random Matt Mercer cameos, Scanlan using a line from Phoenix Wright, and all the PerciVex shipping 🥰

Today is National Poetry Day so I'm going to again share my favourite contemporary poem, which is I'm Going Back to Minnesota Where Sadness Makes Sense by Danez Smith...

I’M GOING BACK TO MINNESOTA WHERE SADNESS MAKES SENSE

By Danez Smith

O California, don’t you know the sun is only a god
if you learn to starve for him? I’m bored with the ocean
I stood at the lip of it, dressed in down, praying for snow
I know, I’m strange, too much light makes me nervous
at least in this land where the trees always bear green.
I know something that doesn’t die can’t be beautiful.
Have you ever stood on a frozen lake, California?
The sun above you, the snow & stalled sea—a field of mirror
all demanding to be the sun too, everything around you
is light & it’s gorgeous & if you stay too long it will kill you
& it’s so sad, you know? You’re the only warm thing for miles
& the only thing that can’t shine.

I don't know how. I don't know why. My boyfriend has a weird superpower that can stop my hiccups just by him patting me on the head, like I'm a strange alarm clock that uses hiccups instead of loud beeps It's worked every time, for all the 7 years we've been dating.

Everyone talks about learning THE "meaning of life", but what if there are multiple meanings? Assuming there's only THE one is like believing there's only one way for a person to live, when clearly there are so many, too many to even count. What do you think?

If someone asks how old I am, I'm gonna start saying what year I was born instead (1991) so it forces people to do the math themselves and figure it out. Really wanna see how this works with folks young and old

Deciding to show off my handiwork for Bluesky likes, just cuz. These palm sized plushes were made wayyyy back in 2020 (I started learning handsewing during the pandemic) and have graced my work desk for the last couple years as a reminder of what I love and what I can make.

A plush of the main characters of Animaniacs, Yakko, Wakko, and Dot, on a Warner Brothers shield shape with the word Animaniacs written across it

A plush with the head of the character Brain, a white mouse, on a blue background with the words "Pinky! Are you pondering what I'm pondering?" stitched in white lettering.

TIL that the word pumpernickel (as in the bread or one of my favorite varieties of bagel) comes from the German *pumpern* which means flatulant, and *nickel* which comes from Nicholas, commonly associated with goblins or devils. So this dark delicious flavor of bread means..."farting devil" 😈💨

Happiness is an inside job. Don't wait for things to be easy or perfect to find joy or beauty any place you look. If you're somewhere you don't want to be, just know it doesn't have to be for forever; find your way and ask for directions. Just came up with those today on the spot, feeling pensive

In the beginning, everyone knows how to love themselves. In the middle, it's easy to forget along the way, so we need other people to remind us to keep loving ourselves, because in the end, that's how we get better
