In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi. He was a 24/7 caregiver for his disabled son Wael. At the time of Maher’s detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Wael’s caregiver put his life at risk. Wael died on Friday at age 30. ICE caused his death. They didn’t get to say goodbye.

It had been months since Wael Tarabishi seen his father. The family is calling on ICE to release Maher Tarabishi so he may attend his son's funeral.

Something I wish we adults spoke more about is how challenging it is to create a dinner Not cooking one, but choosing what foods to put together, what will taste good together, nutritional value and you’ll actually eat while on a budget It’s not as easy as people make it seem, in my opinion

A friend in Minneapolis just sent me this video. Looks like thousands have come together for a vigil after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. This was my neighborhood for several years before coming to Portland.

You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today. This could be you.

Distraught woman says ICE killed her wife in video after deadly Minneapolis shooting
"They killed my wife," the distraught woman says, adding, "They shot her in the head."

"They killed my wife. I don't know what to do," the woman says through sobs in the footage, with a damaged SUV visible in the distance behind her. "We stopped to videotape, and they shot her in the head," the woman cries.
"We have a six-year-old at school," she says, almost unable to breathe, as a chaotic scene in which federal officers prevented at least one doctor who was on the scene from assisting the shot victim unfolds. "We're new here," the distraught woman says in despair.

After Columbine I thought we would move heaven and earth to prevent mass shootings. We did nothing and now they are almost a daily occurrence. Today we watched an ICE thug brutally murder an American citizen in cold blood. A young mother. If we do nothing this too will become a daily occurrence.

“I want you to understand what it is like to live in Chicago during this time.” aphyr.com/posts/397-i-...

I want you to understand what it is like to live in Chicago during this time.

Every day my phone buzzes. It is a neighborhood group: four people were kidnapped at the corner drugstore. A friend a mile away sends a Slack message: she was at the scene when masked men assaulted and abducted two people on the street. A plumber working on my pipes is distraught, and I find out that two of his employees were kidnapped that morning. A week later it happens again.

An email arrives. Agents with guns have chased a teacher into the school where she works. They did not have a warrant. They dragged her away, ignoring her and her colleagues’ pleas to show proof of her documentation. That evening I stand a few feet from the parents of Rayito de Sol and listen to them describe, with anguish, how good Ms. Diana was to their children. What it is like to have strangers with guns traumatize your kids. For a teacher to hide a three-year-old child for fear they might be killed. How their relatives will no longer leave the house. I hear the pain and fury in their voices, and I wonder who will be next.

Understand what it is to pray in Chicago.

I officially just submitted my first academic paper since my senior year of high school in 2006. I’m very out of practice and overthinking is at its max but I don’t actually think I did too terribly. “Not to terribly” is pretty high praise from my brain so I’ll take it.

I miss the days when politics was relatively boring

000

ABrighterDarkness @abrighterdarkness.bsky.social · 22/06/2025

A side note, I’ve gotten way too accustomed to being the person that knows things. “Ask ‘ABD’” has been a constant theme over the last few years, both work and personal. I’m moving into a situation where I don’t actually know all the things and it’s way more intimidating than I thought it would be.

When I was younger, I thought of this country like the house I was living in. It wasn’t perfect and needed some (a lot) of work but it was my home. It was mine and we were making progress. Improving. Now, the walls and ceiling are caving, the foundation is cracked and I’m pretty sure that’s mold.
