(apparently someone I used to know is followed by someone I met more recently and I didn’t know they knew each other and now I am wondering how the hell they know each other)

“Leftist” is so broad and it’s less No True Scotsman and more “leftist” can encompass various schools of thought that have meaningful distinctions. Reformists / revolutionary socialists / anarchists Interventionists / anti-imperialists Postmodernists / materialists All get labeled as “leftists”.

Sometimes I have a day where I get really agitated over a small thing and then when I come out of it I get kind of frustrated. Like yes I am a human being and this is normal but I do wish I were more logical and even tempered sometimes 😩

Every time I’ve walked outside in this heat wave I’ve been like “oh ok I can handle this” And like I haven’t been too sweaty but at the end of a short walk I feel short of breath and a little lightheaded

Preparing myself for tomorrow’s Day of Lying. People will lie to you and then call you foolish for believing them. But I say people who believe things they are told are kind and pure of heart and people who lie for fun are foolish. 🙂‍↕️

Chicago had military jets too, they flew past me loud as fuck even though I’m nowhere near the stadium, shook my building and set a car alarm off on my block. I think it’s really interesting they are talking about jet fuel rationing but they have the fuel for this

Out today and I heard 2 women talking shit about their friend. One was being really really loud and the other was whispering. If you’re going to gossip in public, both parties must agree to be equally loud or equally quiet because it’s really annoying to hear just half of the tea!

She had a foreign policy advisor who said in a leaked email she was “firmly an interventionist”. She said that was not approved and she fired him. But on video when asked she said she wanted to end strategic ambiguity and would sell weapons to Taiwan.

She didn’t live in IL-09 when she announced her run. That impacted the perception of people who DO live in the district, and her ability to build her reputation and a real base of support in the community. I actually live in the district, and have for over a decade. Do you?

Idk people in Maine but maybe one person would lol Chicago politics are very local, and Kat is carpet bagging which raises skepticism across the political spectrum. She’s been posturing as a grassroots organizer in a city she has no ties to. She’s won some over but not sure if it’s enough.

Sometimes the internet pile-on culture is something I just can't look away from, as much as I know it's not a good use of my time and energy and is stoked by bots and bad actors. It's like I'm trying to understand the patterns in the hopes that I'll learn something about propaganda and groupthink.

Repainting my entire place, trying to understand why so many homes are millennial gray and reading “gray is calming”. Yeah, sure, let’s paint walls the color of a gloomy overcast day, surely that will calm us all right down into subclinical depression.

I am repainting my bedroom from light gray to off white and I am about halfway through. Started questioning my choices. Feeling like, is this worth my time or a lateral move? But holding up my art prints has restored my trust in the process. Love how much more vibrant the print looks

friedrich engels on “social murder” in his book condition of the working class (1845)
When one individual inflicts bodily injury upon another such that death results, we call the deed manslaughter; when the assailant knew in advance that the injury would be fatal, we call his deed murder. But when society places hundreds of proletarians in such a position that they inevitably meet a too early and an unnatural death, one which is quite as much a death by violence as that by the sword or bullet; when it deprives thousands of the necessaries of life, places them under conditions in which they cannot live— forces them, through the strong arm of the law, to remain in such conditions until that death ensues which is the inevitable consequence— knows that these thousands of victims must perish, and yet permits these conditions to remain, its deed is murder just as surely as the deed of the single individual; disguised, malicious murder, murder against which (cont.)none can defend himself, which does not seem what it is, because no man sees the murderer, because the death of the victim seems a natural one, since the offence is more one of omission than of commission. But murder it remains. I have now to prove that society in England daily and hourly commits what the working-men’s organs, with perfect correctness, characterise as social murder, that it has placed the workers under conditions in which they can neither retain health nor live long; that it undermines the vital force of these workers gradually, little by little, and so hurries them to the grave before their time. I have further to prove that society knows how injurious such conditions are to the health and the life of the workers, and yet does nothing to improve these conditions. That it knows the consequences of its deeds; that its act is, therefore, not mere manslaughter, but murder, I shall have proved, when I cite official documents, reports of Parliament and of the Government, in substantiation of my charge.

Homelessness is a policy choice. Suffering is a policy choice. Everyone deserves a safe place to lay their head, food on their table and healthcare. When basic needs are met health and happiness improve. We could easily provide for everyone… those in power don’t want to.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.” That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

In response to the United States’ withdrawal from the World Health Organization, California announced that it has joined the WHO’s Global Outbreak Alert & Response Network, the first state to do so.
SACRAMENTO – As President Trump withdraws the United States from the World Health Organization, California is stepping up under Governor Gavin Newsom — becoming the first, and currently the only, state to join WHO’s Global Outbreak Alert & Response Network (GOARN), strengthening public health preparedness and rapid response coordination. During his recent trip to the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, Governor Newsom met with WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to discuss collaboration to detect and respond to emerging public health threats.
