Jamaica LIRR? Is it because of the high turnover?

Are you still able to ask questions at press conferences? 😅

It’s not as ambitious as the old plan you posted but I will admit my usually optimistic self should not have been so pessimistic with my last post, because upon reading that link, the time project is better than I remembered!

The fact I know we won’t do this kind of project for at least decades and decades is crushing me actually.

Hertz in Great Neck has done me good many times. Also the Hertz across the street from North White Plains station is amazing for going north, though recently they’ve said they have availability issues on weekends.

They could’ve done it ages ago but they didn’t want to until the LIRR was able to re-route some trains to Grand Central.

Amazing video!! When I got the Youtube notification my jaw dropped. Watched it with my partner, we lived on Roosevelt island for 4 years until June. So this video was a little emotional seeing a place that was considered home for so long but no more.

Didn’t Metro-North get some priority over boats recently in CT? At least during rush hour I think?

The stress was about the fact that I didn’t want to miss a train and be stuck with the prospect of paying hundreds of dollars just to ride a train that I normally pay $10-30 for. This strategy means I secure two tickets at a good price and can use the second one as a fall back.

I use Amtrak flex tickets all the time, very little extra $ for the flexibility. Only NOW did I have the had the idea to book a flex ticket on a second train 30-60 min later, as insurance in case the subway is delayed and I miss the first train. *Poof*.. no more stress catching Amtrak.

Yes, I was excited to see this title in my notifications. The notification popped up with no thumbnail loaded. I figured I knew what the title was talking about. I held down on the notification and the thumbnail revealed itself! Huzzah I was right! 😅

Well, the current eagle teams are still considered a pilot program. So it’s an easy guess they will hire more when it’s official.

Sooo the solution to all that illegal parking is to make it an actual parking lane… should be loading zones

Ah yes, LIRR out here running 2 car rush hour diesel trains due to lack of equipment, meanwhile MNR has so many they commonly run diesels on trips fully within electric territory. Maybe most commonly seen on Hudson line semi-express trains that run between Croton and GCT.

Maybe even include it in GTFS but I’ll take a simple PDF map. And maybe posters in the stations along the route saying the same info for that given subway route.

Thank you. How am I supposed to plan anything off peak if I don’t know where the slow zones are? They KNOW where they are planning work, and they KNOW what time they plan to be there. They could EASILY publish a map of slow zones for each week/day, and list the expected additional travel time.

I count 9 weekday and 5 weekend northbound trains arriving at Hartford before 2pm. Am I missing something? There are currently some bustitutions between New Haven and Hartford maybe that’s what you mean? But those don’t replace all the morning trains.

Great article. I did not know LIC has more jobs that Newark’s downtown. And that’s including the massive dead zone of the rail yards! Most LIC skyscrapers are residential, whereas most(I think) of Newarks are office-type or medical. I guess the low rise jobs in LIC are just that numerous!

I love Aussies because they will complain about bad suburban rail frequency and it’s a line with 10 min peak, 20 min off peak, 40 min late evening service. Yes, could be better but you guys expect a lot from your suburban lines and I love it. Metro tunnel is =<10 min frequency first to last train

This is true. But Transit app does a hell of a lot better job at guessing. And the old MTA app would fall back on the paper schedule so I knew when it was supposed to depart (which is usually did correctly), the new one just has the entire trip disappear so it looks like a huge gap.

Autumn 🚠 @abnyc.bsky.social · 01/06/2026
I took some real thought to pick a few favorites because I assumed there was a cap. Wowza Also I haven’t used the app for buses since a couple days after the update because I noticed it wasn’t showing departures properly. It doesn’t always know when a bus exists. Didn’t do that before.

My reality snap back was half of the walking escalators at JFK being broken… not a single one in Spain on that trip was broken, across an airport and 3 metro systems.

Also I never know if I should reply to the second post in the thread (which I’m primarily replying to) or if I should just reply to the top one.

Every time I enjoy the quietness on or near the Hudson River, I always think about how grateful I am they never built a Hudson River expressway that would’ve ruined the serenity. (Yes they did built a section but mostly in the least bad section to do so). At night and at sunset is pure relaxation

Cars have at least a 6-8 mph speed limit buffer before cops even blink twice, often more than that. Speed cameras give 10 mph buffer. I don’t think twice about going 20-25 on my e-bike when I feel it is better for the situation (obviously not in any bike lanes).

The LI sound, really? I assume not the entire thing, what is considered too far west? Tons of people swim in the sound at north shore beaches.

The nice thing about wider bike lanes is that it’s no big deal if there are still narrower sections. The wider section still makes a % of your ride nicer.

No the new dual mode units will make the two modes of service rule obsolete. Any dual mode locomotive is considered an electric train regardless of what mode it runs in.

Don’t like biking through the middle of a restaurant though! The bike lane should always go around on-street dining, with hard protection between the bike lane and car lane.

I would vastly prefer all day 10 min or better Brooklyn service as opposed to bringing back direct trains. Reverse branching is the enemy.

It is a gap but not that big. The new MTA app update is awful at buses. It will often pretend that buses don’t exist at all (not even showing them as scheduled) just because they haven’t started their trip. Definitely a separate issue that the app was shipped in that bad of a condition.

Most bus-only signals in NYC use white lights. Surprised this one doesn’t.

Another factor that contributed to saving money was the trains between and within German cities being cheaper since we used the Deutschland ticket. So the additional cost of visiting several cities was effectively $0!

Ah I see. This reminds me of when I wanted to do a London(7 days)+Scotland(7 days) trip, but it was cheaper to do London(7 days)+Germany(2 weeks) because hotels in Germany were so much cheaper. This was after having already been to Germany but never visiting Scotland. Was still very fun!

I live in NYC and Montreal is the Canadian city I’ve been to the most, by far, because it’s so close. Why haven’t you been to NYC?

Wait.. are you saying you reported somebody not providing a bike lane detour, and it was actually fixed same day?!? Con-Edison does this constantly.

CityTicket is a revenue positive program. They made MORE money by implementing it. Both railroads would blow past 2019 ridership levels if the CityTicket had a free transfer on both sides of the trip. Even without it being lowered to $3. OMNY will *technologically* support this later this year.
