This keyboard is built on the Leap Frog LeapBuilders system, which is a series of educational blocks with letters on them, plus a base station that can detect which block you put in. I converted it to a keyboard, with some minor modifications to give it a space and backspace.

so true… looking at a painting irl is so different from looking at a screen. and some of the coolest art I’ve seen pushes on digital-ness as a medium of its own (pixels, distortion/static, interactivity, animation) instead of merely imitating traditional art techniques.

Sedation is risky - a small error can kill you very easily. You can choke on your own spit or just randomly stop breathing for no good reason; if the dose isn’t exactly right and you wake up, you could panic from being disoriented…The doctors probably just don’t want to deal with the extra effort

Even on deviantart, fandom artists are more popular than artists that do original work. The problem is exacerbated when you add in the physical constraints of real life booths (ie putting a fandom artist next to an indie artist)

(assuming I’m misreading) I think the organizing comes down to capitalism (funding) again, too. ShortBox ended because the organizational work was too much without paying for a professional team, which the fair did not have budget for. MICE is outgrowing its location but cant afford a bigger space…

I think that leads to the over proliferation of prints (because that’s the most profitable item to make) and the lack of original comics or original written stories (some of the least profitable items to make; books are expensive to produce).

Great thread. I feel like another problem in the US is capitalism. Regardless of what the artist actually wants to make and wants to sell, it’s extremely easy to print out some popular fanart you already drew in hopes of making a few more bucks.

This feels similar to me to something Marx said about the isolation that capitalism intentionally creates, wherein products appear to simply fall from the sky with price tags attached and with no human hand involved in their creation at all. People are now viewing art in the same way, I think.

too many things covering the surface/the water surface isn’t exposed enough? if I were a dragonfly/damselfly I’d have a hard time parking in there. I’ve seen damselflies hang with smaller buckets so I don’t think size is the whole story.
