It does come with its own special flaws. Because of its convenience, it is overused poorly. (Which makes it bad marketing tbh.) It creates a disconnect between the reader and the art by creating awareness of the magic circle the reader puts themself in and shows a lack of the creator's confidence.

I think it also is thematically fertile in a way that can be used to make its themes more digestible by bringing them into the story. It can be more forgiving about mistakes by showing its aware it understands them. Can show its own inner workings to show others how to be better readers & artists.
